Having little or no expectations to be anyone of substance
is debilitating no matter what age or sex. Living up to
someone else's ideal is really an impossible endeavor and
that's basically where Victoria and Eli find themselves at
a point in their lives where they're angry because they
were so hurt and disillusioned by those that were supposed
to love them.
Victoria's (also known as Tori) husband committed suicide
after his Ponzi scheme
became public knowledge. He couldn't live with the
repercussions of his theft and coward that he was left
behind his wife and son Jacob with no one to protect them
from public ridicule and scorn. When Tori's father passes
away she leaves her old life behind and sets out to make a
life at his ranch. But her arrival at the ranch wasn't
welcome with the exception of their long time cook Ruby. The foreman Eli had history with not only Tori but with
her family. Now Tori is back, ill equipped to run the ranch
that he so
covets and Eli's not above using all the tools he learned
about being a self serving cruel man specially when he
spies a lot of interest when Tori looks at him. Just
another weapon in his arsenal. Just when he figures he's
got her in an untenable position she turns the table in a
surprising show of guts, stamina and resourcefulness with a
comeback worthy of a smile and if he were honest with
himself respect. Not much to do with a ranch with no livestock so Tori digs
deep and comes up with a rather intriguing plan -- turn the
eye sore of a ranch into a resort complete with spas.
First she had to make a life changing resolution -- no more
door mat for any man -- even someone sexy and yummy like Eli
who warmed her blood just by looking her way. Molly O'Keefe does it again. This time with a self effacing
story about new beginnings. Strong characters are central
to CAN'T HURRY LOVE and in true O'Keefe fashion even the
crustiest can become endearing. CAN'T HURRY LOVE proves
love is great but respect is better.
SUMMARY
From award-winning author Molly O’Keefe comes a
wonderfully written contemporary romance about second
chances at life and at love. Victoria
Baker, the penniless widow of a disgraced financier, is
ready to stand up, be counted, and make a new life for
herself and her beloved son in Texas. She’s taking over
Crooked Creek ranch, her birthright, and turning it into
something special. All that stands in her way is Eli
Turnbull, a rugged, too-handsome cowboy who wants the land
just as badly. If Victoria wants a
fight, Eli will give her one. He’s devoted his life to
Crooked Creek, and he’s not about to let some pampered city
girl—even one as brave and beautiful as Victoria—turn it
into some silly spa. But Victoria’s and Eli’s burning anger
and frustration only fuel heat of another kind:
uncontrollable passion. And soon they each realize that the
person standing in their way is the one they can never do
without.
