Clementine does the unthinkable and breaks one of the
largest best friend rules when it comes to boyfriends. Her
regret serves to taint her entire summer. Her friends are
ignoring her and her best friend has more than a few rude
things to say to her. The boy that partially caused the
whole problem has abandoned Clementine and Clementine has
never felt more alone. When her parents plan a somewhat
unexpected boating trip, she doesn't want to go, but has no
prospects anyway. Clementine's trip begins on a somewhat
sour note punctuated by her cute younger sister who truly
cares for her. She has nothing to do and no access to the
Internet for long stretches of time. When she meets "Red,"
she thinks nothing will come of it. Slowly, Red begins to
take the form of someone who could be that "something more"
for Clementine. His ridiculously positive presence
literally lifts the scenes. Clementine is happy around Red,
but how will he react to her terrible secret? Clementine's character will likely remind you of
any other high school girl you may have known. She is surly
and
unhappy in UNBREAK MY HEART, but has good cause. Her kind
treatment of her sister will likely make you forgive
her negative attitude. Red is the perfect balance to
Clementine's thunder clouds. His almost abnormally positive
attitude hides a darker secret of his own. The two are
quite the pair.
Overall, UNBREAK MY HEART is exactly what the readers
expect from Melissa Walker. The boat trip is realistic and
the sense of family support only adds to the story. The
emotionally charged words captured, by the author, of the
scorned teen girl makes
UNBREAK MY HEART both believable and enjoyable.
SUMMARY
You can't help who you fall in love with. It's a lesson
Clementine Williams knows all too well. She's headed into
the summer with a broken heart and zero social life. So even
though her parents' plan to spend the summer (trapped) on
their sailboat should make Clem break out in hives, she
doesn't really mind the chance to float away for a while.
Even if it means most of her social interaction will be with
her nine-year-old sister. Then she meets James at one of
their stops on the Great Loop-a classic sailing track in the
US. He and his dad are sailing the same track and he's just
the distraction Clem needs. But will he be able to break
down Clem's walls and heal her broken heart?
Told in alternating chapters that chronicle
the year that broke Clem's heart and the summer that healed
it, Unbreak My Heart is a wonderful dual love story
from magazine writer/editor and rising star, Melissa Walker.
