Following the death of her husband, Jackson, Amelia Gauge
and her son Alex move from Ohio to Venice, California for a
change of scenery. After 8 months, Amelia is still
devastated and wasting away in sorrow. The time has come to
take charge with a leap of faith and a new life for her and
her son. They move into an apartment where Amelia becomes
friends with her pregnant neighbor Regina Colwell and her
husband Scott. Working as a waitress, she takes on a part
time job as an extra in the movies. Meeting the heart throb
actor, Dustin LaSalle, begins a relationship as he rescues
her after being attacked in a parking lot. Reluctant to
become involved with anyone and carry the guilt of her dead
husband, she eventually is unable to deny the genuine
connection she and Dustin share.
Breaking off with Dustin as she is unable to cope with a
life open to public scrutiny, the time absent from him only
solidifies her love for him. Dustin finally convinces Amelia
to move in with him and reveal to the world their feelings.
Amelia's wrongful death suit on behalf of her husband
previously paid a tremendous settlement to her which has
been revealed to no one. When she discovers someone has been
embezzling from one of the savings accounts, it points to
Scott, who works at the bank. Prior to moving in with Dustin
her last task is to confront Regina with her findings of
Scott and her intent to report his actions to the law.
Before she is able to leave the apartment she overhears
Scott arguing and abusing Regina and tries to help her.
Scott so severely beats Amelia she barely has time to stab
him with a sharp object through the temple before she sees
her life ebb away. Weeks later, Amelia wakes with a broken
body and knowing that a Hollywood ending is just life and
just small steps even though the broken heart and bones only
make her stronger than ever.
I completely enjoyed the fast paced life of a Hollywood
celebrity and his love for a small town woman. Regina begins
as a completely broken soul who grows and finds her way to
love again and becomes a stronger woman than she ever
thought possible. There is suspense, mystery, tragedy and
yet there is a life beyond yesterday. A LIFE BEYOND
YESTERDAY was indeed difficult to put down until I had
reached the final page!
A LIFE BEYOND YESTERDAY follows Amelia’s journey as she
reinvents herself while adapting to single motherhood and
discovers an ability to love she thought had died with her
husband.
After remaining shrouded in grief and depression for nearly
a year following the unexpected death of Amelia Gauge’s
young husband, Amelia realizes she must extract herself from
this dark emotional vortex for the sake of her son.
Because the home she’d shared with her deceased husband is
mired in memories too painful to face each day, Amelia moves
with her son across the country from rural Ohio to Venice
Beach, California for a fresh start.
A LIFE BEYOND YESTERDAY explores the guilt of a former stay-
at-home mother forced to concentrate on herself and what she
wants out of life while navigating a new-to-her world filled
with deceit and hidden danger, a movie star suitor, big
money and even bigger hearts.
