Sydney Marie St. John earned great success in the world of
business and finance, and yet now she's unemployed due to
blowing the whistle on unscrupulous business practices. She
returns to Sweetheart, Indiana, seeking some peace and
quiet. Eric Law, a successful attorney, is back home for
his brother's wedding and to fill in at his brother's law
office while he's away on his honeymoon. Growing up, Sydney
and Eric couldn't have been more different. She was into
academics and looking toward the future, pouring herself
into her studies to cover up the feelings of being awkward
and ugly. Eric was Mr. Popular and quite the ladies' man.
He focused on where the next party was, leaving the
impression that he wouldn't amount to much of a success.
Now, car trouble strands Eric in the middle of nowhere, and
he finds himself rescued by the one person who never wanted
to see him again. Unaware of Sydney's (real?) feelings
toward him, Eric accepts her help on that lonely stretch of
highway and emotions from the past begin to surface.
While filling in at his brother's law office, Eric
discovers that although he's achieved a successful career,
the town still sees him only as the most eligible bachelor
in Sweetheart. On the other hand, Sydney is simply enjoying
the solitude at her parent's home and trying not to think
about what people may or may not think about her. But of
course, not everything is always quiet and pleasant, even
in a small and picturesque town such as Sweetheart. Someone
is writing Sydney threatening notes, and upon further
scrutiny, the messages appear to reflect on situations from
long ago. Eric questions Sydney about the messages and uses
his instincts and legal expertise to look into the matter
further. What they both discover is that there are many
secrets lurking in their small town that could either
enhance or destroy the lives of those involved. Can you go
home again and right wrongs or repair past mistakes? Can
you find love with the one you never wanted to see again?
That's what these two people will discover.
As soon as I started reading GOODNIGHT, SWEETHEART, I was
hooked. It was such a fun story that I stayed up all night
to finish it. Then upon completion, I found it was a sequel
to SWEETHEART, INDIANA. Naturally, I bought the first book
and read it right away. Suzanne Simmons has created such
believable characters that I felt like I knew them. A few
even reminded me of some of my relatives, since I'm
originally from a small town and can relate to the
activities. The town may be small, but problems and secrets
can be big-city in size.
WELCOME to Sweetheart, Indiana, where everyone is your
friend...or in this case, a bad memory. In high school,
Sydney Marie St. John had made a perfect fool of herself
over Eric Law, who at eighteen was wild, uninhibited, dark,
dangerous—and irresistible. Years later, Sydney is
returning to her hometown looking for a little R-and-R
after losing her job, and the one person she'd hoped never
to come face-to-face with again is the first person she
runs into...literally.
Eric Law, successful attorney, is back in Sweetheart for
his brother's wedding. But nothing is going according to
plan, and he finds himself stranded in the middle of
nowhere until a beautiful woman comes to his rescue.
It seems that everyone in Sweetheart has a secret in their
past they'd like to keep buried, and that includes Sydney
and Eric. But will they ever be able to put the past behind
them and create a future together?
