Would you be a Clockworker or die an agonizing death? In
this steampunk horror the author introduces the Clockwork
Plague. For many, the Clockwork Plague causes a hard,
painful death; however, there are some lucky few who are
apparently helped by the Clockwork Plague and end up
enhanced.
Alice Michaels is not the happiest character. She believes
she infected her family with the Clockwork Plague. The only
family member Alice has left is her father. Alice decides
that she will do anything to help her father and make him
happy one last time. When Mr. Williamson comes to town,
Alice goes along with his advances, knowing her father would
rest easy with the knowledge that she was taken care of.
Of course, that lullaby cannot last forever. Alice begins to
realize that she is missing out on life. She helps quell a
zombie attack and meets someone who makes her heart
flutter... leading her to question her choices. What will
Alice decide? How will this novel play out?
Alice is a character the reader will like. She is fun,
reasonable, and exhilarating to read about. Gavin is another
important character, how the reader reacts to him will be
fun to see. Many of the secondary characters have a fairly
large impact on the novel. The events could have been paced
slightly faster, but the overall feel of the story is
exhilarating. Steampunk fans will enjoy THE DOOMSDAY VAULT!
In a clockwork Brittania, Alice's prospects are slim. At 21, her age and her unladylike interest in automatons have sealed her fate as an undesirable marriage prospect. But a devastating plague sends Alice off in a direction beyond the pale-towards a clandestine organization, mad inventors, life-altering secrets, and into the arms of an intrepid fiddle-playing airship pilot.
