Blood Trinity first introduced us to Evalle, Tzader,
Quinn,
Tristan, Storm, and the most loveable gargoyle, Feenix. From
book one this series has been outstanding! Created by the
dynamic duo of Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love, the
Belador series has turned into a phenomenon. I believe that
each book could be read as a standalone; however, as
characters, evolve I would recommend reading the series as a
whole. The combined efforts of Love, whose plot mysteries
and twists are well-known, and Kenyon, whose romance knows
no bounds, are truly remarkable. These ladies have combined
the best of both their worlds and given us an Atlanta that
I keep coming back to.
ALTERANT throws us right back into the complex world of
Evalle where we have all parts of mythology from witches
and demons to paranormal humans who can do the things of
legends. Evalle has just survived one folly only to be
looked on as a mistake yet again. Three alterant's have
escaped their prisons and the Tribunal is looking at Evalle
as a threat again. The only way she can save herself from
being caged is to capture the three missing alterants and
return them to the tribunal. Evalle is going to need every
piece of strength and every ally she can find for this one.
When death is always waiting around the corner, Evalle is
forced to turn to some unexpected sources. Will these new
allies turn against her or will she be able to convince
them to fight for her?
I love the kick-ass quality to Evalle. She has clearly
taken a beating and is fighting for her people to be
recognized as more than the beasts that everyone is afraid
they are. Her no-nonsense approaches are often comical to
say the least. I love her strength; I mean she is
constantly trying to protect those around her that she
considers her family. Even if protecting her friends means
that she has to protect them from herself. I was very glad
to see the return of Feenix. He was an adorable and much
loved character from the first book. Finding that he is
still an active character was a delight. I find that I have
invested my interests in these characters. In the first
book you become familiar with Quinn and Tzader as Evalle's
best friends. In this book their characters evolve well
past anywhere they have been before. I have fallen in love
with Tzader and his story. I have also been able to relate
to Quinn and his follies as mistakes that anyone could
make. All the characters have clearly come to new depths in
the ALTERANT. I am still wondering about Tristan and his
secret agenda. I am also not quite
convinced that Storm is everything that I want him to be.
ALTERANT clearly ended without a conclusion. Parts of the
story were played out and nicely wrapped up. However, the
main story line was left out on a limb. The cliffhanger
ending is one that every reader complains about, yet it is
also what keeps us coming back for more.
In this explosive new world of betrayals and shaky
alliances, the only Alterant not incarcerated faces an
impossible task –– recapture three dangerous,
escaped
creatures before they slaughter more humans...or her.
The way Evalle Kincaid sees it, saving mankind from total
destruction should have cleared her name. But when words
uttered in the heat of combat are twisted against her,
she's
blamed for the prison break of three dangerous Alterants.
She has one chance to clear the cloud of suspicion hanging
over her...for good. All she has to do is recapture the
escapees. But deals with gods and goddesses are tricky at
best, and now the lives of all Beladors, and the safety of
innocent humans, rides on Evalle's success. The only
person
she can ask for help wants to see her dead.
Heather - Thanks for reading ALTERANT. So glad you enjoyed the latest Belador story. I really appreciate the wonderful review that shared plenty without giving away spoilers. :) (Dianna Love 8:15am October 18, 2011)
