As a small child, White Fawn was adopted into Comanche
chief Eagle Feather's family, replacing the daughter he
lost to a white man's bullet. Although she's white, she's
accepted and soon will take a husband. But while on a raid,
her intended, One Bear, is killed. White Fawn would have
died if not for Eagle Feather's amulet and being mistaken
for a boy. Now she needs to find her way back to her
family.
After Indians killed his family, Matthew Conway became a
Ranger. For years he hunted and killed Indians, until he
lost interest and went back to his family's ranch. After
meeting up with some men who killed a raiding party,
Matthew just can't let them scalp the young boy. Matthew
vows to return and bury him, but when he comes back, the
boy is gone. Matthew puts his old tracking skills to work
to find the boy before harm can come to him or someone else.
Matthew finally locates the boy and is surprised when he
discovers the child is actually a white girl and she's not
as young as he thought. Not knowing what to do with her, he
drags her to his ranch and locks her in a room. Taking her
to an orphanage seems like the logical thing to do, but
Matthew can't seem to get the deed done, especially since
he's so attracted to her.
At first, White Fawn hates Matthew, but that feeling is
soon replaced with a very strong attraction. Knowing she
can never fit in the white man's world again, she bides her
time until she can get away. Unintentionally, Matthew lets
lust for White Fawn go too far. She accepts his advances,
and he's gifted with more than just his body's
satisfaction. When Matthew is called away to help deal with
another raiding party, White Fawn takes the opportunity to
flee.
Returning and finding that she's gone, Matthew vows to
locate her and bring her home. White Fawn knows that
because of the love she feels for Matthew, she will never
take another man to her blankets. When Eagle Feathers comes
up with a plan, both Matthew and White Fawn are surprised
at the outcome.
This is an excellent story, grabbing your attention and
making it hard to put down. Both White Fawn and Matthew are
stubborn as mules and fight their feelings to the very end.
