Abby Shaw was happy to move back to Paradise, Colorado
where she would be near her brother and his family. The
fact that she was able to move home after inheriting
Divinity, a candy store, was just icing on the cake. Now
she's trying to make the candy shop a success and it's
harder than she thought it would be. Another distraction
comes in the desperate request of her two young nephews, an
assistant coach is needed for their basketball team or the
team won't be able to compete. It's going to take more time
than she has to spare, but how can Abby say no after
missing so many years with the boys and their sisters? A
sour Coach Kevin Hendricks isn't thrilled to have a woman
as his assistant and lets everyone know it.
As stormy weather moves in, Abby thinks she's seen a murder
on the side of the highway. When she returns with her
brother and the police, there's no evidence of foul play.
It was hard to see exactly what happened but Abby is sure
she heard gunshots and saw a man fall. Or did she?
Jarwarski, police detective and Abby's almost boyfriend,
isn't sure what to believe. Abby doesn't lie but it's hard
to prove murder without a body, so what's a man to do?
This is the fourth book in the Candy Shop Mystery series,
but it can be read on it's own too. It's nice to find a
strong woman who's closer to middle-age than college age as
the main character. Abby is sure of herself and what she
wants, but she's not afraid to compromise either. The
romantic relationship promises to keep getting stronger and
the family bonds are tightening. The recipes for Chocolate
Raisin Rum Drops, Old-Fashioned Molasses Candy, Candy Bar-
Stuffed Baked Apples, and Candy Corn Suckers look delicious.
