Kenly Alister didn't have a stable or happy childhood. Her mother died when she was young, leaving her to be raised by an alcoholic father. His unstable employment habits meant moving often, never staying in any place long enough to call home. Finally, they settle in a tiny town in Canada where Kenly meets Lexie and Tommy, who become her best friends. Being plagued with a disfiguring disease since birth, it's Tommy who becomes her soul mate and confidant. His positive outlook on life helps Kenly get through the remaining two years of school.

After graduation, Kenly is accepted at Northwestern University. She and Lexie move to Chicago where Kenly meets Ross Lowen. Ross starts out as her mentor in a business program, but after a whirlwind romance, becomes her husband following the birth of their son, Connor. Though Ross and Kenly are totally in love and devoted to each other, their picture-perfect life is not without troubles and tragedies. An added strain is the cloud that hangs over their marriage in the form of a secret -- one that Kenly has carried with her for many years. If revealed, this secret could possibly destroy her marriage. After Tommy dies, Kenly knows the cloud must be lifted.

In her debut novel, Holly Kennedy has written a beautiful story about love, honesty, trust and friendship. As the plot unfolds, it moves along so smoothly, you immediately become engrossed with the characters. It's also a story that puts you on edge wondering when the secret will be revealed. And it's not until the final pages that the outcome is known.
