Christian Delacorte's world has tilted. He survived a
horrific experience as a child, terrified in his bedroom
while his family was murdered. The wealthy Fiona Dunhill
took him in and raised him. As an adult, he worked for
Fiona as the head of security of Dunhill Corporation. He
felt a special bond with Fiona, but she has many secrets.
One secret landed her in prison for reasons that were
complicated and centered on Christian.
An Asian woman named Jasmine mysteriously showed up in a
warehouse a few months before and helped Christian rescue
police detective Raven from a tortuous death. Raven was
investigating the murder of one of Dunhill's security team.
During that investigation, Christian and Raven fell in
love. Now Jasmine has returned to call in the favor card.
She needs Christian to help rescue her boss. Nicholas
Charboneau and Jasmine were in Brazil when men broke into
their hotel suite and kidnapped him. Jasmine's instructions
are to obtain a vast amount of money within 10 days or they
will kill Nicholas. Jasmine would do anything to rescue
Nicholas. He is not only her boss, but he is the man she
loves.
Nicholas, well-known in Chicago, is a man who lives on the
wrong side of the law while still schmoozing in the
limelight of the rich and famous. One of those men knows
how to oil the hinges yet appear squeaky clean when
necessary. Jasmine provides a very compelling reason for
Christian to go to Brazil. Feeling his life is a mess and
not sure that he's good enough for Raven, Christian starts
an argument with her to put some distance between them.
Once in Brazil, Christian and Jasmine's investigation hits
many snags. They're victims of a voodoo scare, someone
tries to run over Christian and someone is tailing their
every move. Nevertheless, Christian does not give up. His
investigation proves fruitful, but also dangerous when
Raven surprises him by showing up in Brazil. It appears
that no one can be trusted and Christian and Raven are
involved in a twisted plan they could never have imagined.
Jordan Dane rounds out this series with NO ONE LIVES
FOREVER. I had the pleasure of reading her first two books,
NO ONE HEARD HER SCREAM (April) and NO ONE LEFT TO TELL
(May). This book is great as it is, but you really should
buy the first two releases. The characters are well-
developed and extremely likable. The exciting plots twists
and turns evolve into a gripping conclusion. Ms. Dane makes
the jump and can only move up and forward.
Born to a life pitted by violence, a man desperately seeks
peace to move on. He's fallen in love with a Chicago
homicide detective, but just when he embarks on a new
life, his old one comes calling. A mysterious and
beautiful assassin barges into his downtown Chicago flat,
attempting to collect on an old marker. She confesses the
true identity of his crime boss father—a name kept secret
by his mother—and begs his help to free the man kidnapped
in Brazil. The ransom note gives him only ten days to
attempt an impossible rescue. Will he risk his future to
discover his past?
