Yejide Kilanko was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. A therapist in children's mental health, she holds a Political Science degree from the University of Ibadan and Social Work degrees from the University of Victoria and the University of Windsor. Her second novel, When Land Spirits Cross Big Waters, is forthcoming from Penguin Canada, Spring 2014.
