Mark Sauter
Personal Biography
I'm the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Analyst at the
Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC). www.cic-tech.org The CIC is a public/private partnership that focuses the
power of entrepreneurship on America's most pressing
security requirements. By creating a bridge between major
users of security technology and small companies at the
forefront of innovation, the Center enhances America's
technological edge and helps propel the Informatics Corridor
around the Washington Beltway. The Center and its member
companies specialize in informatics, knowledge discovery, IT
security, visualization, information assurance, human
capital development, and other security-related areas. I assist CIC member companies by providing them with focused
business assistance services and homeland security and
business-related educational programs. I also produce CIC
market research, such as our recent report "The Business of
Connecting Dots: the $1 Billion Intelligence and Security
Informatics/Analytics Market." That report -- produced with
New York investment bank C.E. Unterberg, Towbin -- is
available at the CIC Web site. Before joining the CIC, I worked at several venture
capital-backed companies focused on e-learning and new
media. I graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude,
and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. My military
service was in Army infantry and Special Forces units. My professional and personal interest in homeland security
and terrorism goes back many years. I also witnessed the
impact of modern terrorism first hand while living near the
World Trade Center on 9/11.
