Re: More Than A Touch (12:47pm January 18, 2014):
Kai--I've always said that I've learned more about history and what it was really like living it through the eyes of a character in a book!
Leona--I'm glad you think the list is worth sharing with your friends! Thanks for stopping by!
Michelle--I love characters who almost break your heart even while you're rooting for them to succeed.
Sybil--What an amazing description of what secondary characters add to a story! I wish I had thought of that!
Re: More Than A Touch (12:41pm January 18, 2014):
Mary--I hope you enjoy Leif's story!
Marcelyn--I think the appeal of series is getting to revisit that world and the people we've come to care about.
Diane--I think all Vets deserved a HEA!
Amy--I'll definitely check out A Discover of Witches. Sounds like my kind of book.
Re: More Than A Touch (12:37pm January 18, 2014):
Cecilia--I love the covers, too. We had fun tucking Mooch, the dog, into each cover since he plays an important role in the stories.
Rita--Thanks for stopping by to say hi!
Carol O.--I usually keep a book in my car or tucked in my purse to read, even at stoplights!
Carol W.--I'm glad you enjoyed the list. I had fun working on it!
Re: More Than A Touch (12:33pm January 18, 2014):
Barbara--I think I'm now suffering from gel pen envy! :-)
Sandra--I love holding a book in my hands, especially if it's one I've been waiting for!
Sue--I know what you mean. I try really hard to make my characters three dimensional so that readers can connect with them.
Betty-thank you for stopping by! If you do try my series, I hope you enjoy it.
Re: More Than A Touch (4:18pm January 17, 2014):
Theresa--they do, indeed!
Sharon: It is a tricky business to get all the parts of a story in the right balance, but I love it when they all come together in just the right way! Those books end up on my keeper shelf.
Susan: Well said! A world without books would be a sad, sad place.
Re: More Than A Touch (4:16pm January 17, 2014):
Hi, Peggy! Thanks for letting me know that you've enjoyed my books--that means a lot to me. I also love reading books in settings that I'm familiar with!
Re: More Than A Touch (4:14pm January 17, 2014):
MaryEllen--I do read more on my e-reader than I used to, but if I really love a book, I'll often buy a print copy as well. Thanks for stopping by!
Re: More Than A Touch (4:14pm January 17, 2014):
Sandy, I love seriously flawed characters who are trying to do better. I loved Zsadist in JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series so much because of how flawed he was--and yet he held onto his personal honor.
Re: More Than A Touch (4:12pm January 17, 2014):
Vennie--I agree that the cover art and title are important factors in making me reach out to pick up a book. For me the ending needs to meet my expectations for the genre I'm reading.
Re: More Than A Touch (4:10pm January 17, 2014):
Denise--I love the San Juan Islands--they are so beautiful. THanks for sharing your memories!
Re: More Than A Touch (12:10pm January 17, 2014):
Lori--that's so right! I want to reach the end and know they've overcome everything just to be together!

Re: More Than A Touch (11:18am January 17, 2014):
Maria--Those are definitely the moments that make us smile long after we've finished the book.
Alexis
Re: More Than A Touch (11:17am January 17, 2014):
Richard--You're so right. The hero might be allowed a few minutes of self doubt, but in the end, he has to stand strong.
Alexis
Re: More Than A Touch (11:15am January 17, 2014):
Hi, Karin! Yeah, I love it when the secondary characters are strong enough in their own right to enrich the world and help that "impossible to happen." One of the things we hear in classes on writing is that if she's an arsonist, he's a firefighter. As you said, clearly not right for each other!

Re: More Than A Touch (10:46am January 17, 2014):
Peggy, I agree--I have to connect with the heroine on some level to really love the book. Bonnie--I love the cover, too. They've done a great job for me on the whole series. Nancy--Getting lost in the world the author has created is such a wonderful feeling! Margaret--I'm glad you enjoyed my list of ten (well, 11). ;-) May--I think the heroine is important because it is through her eyes that we see the hero.
Thank you all for stopping by today! Alexis
Re: Her Knight's Quest (11:53am March 16, 2013):
I want to thank everyone at Fresh Fiction for letting me stop by! And a special thanks to everyone who took the time to comment and share their love of secondary characters with me. Thanks to you all, I've added a few books to my TBR list!
Alexis
Re: Her Knight's Quest (4:24pm March 15, 2013):
It is sort of like getting to spend a cozy evening with cloe friends, isn't it?
Re: Her Knight's Quest (3:25pm March 15, 2013):
I think one of the most powerful secondary character I've read was Sam in Suzanne Brockmann's Navy Seal series. By the time he finally got his own book, I was SO ready for him to get a little bit of happy in his life! Another one was Zsadist in JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. He about broke my heart!
Re: Her Knight's Quest (2:12pm March 15, 2013):
Annetta--you're right about authors loving it when readers demand a character have his story told!
Sue--I like stories about families, too--seeing where past events ripple through following generations.
Jean--I love the feeling of satisfaction I get when I finally find out what happens when a favorite secondary character moves into the spotlight!
Re: Her Knight's Quest (12:40pm March 15, 2013):
Alana--I'm glad you're enjoying Sigil! He's definitely one of those characters who has demanded to be more than I originally intended! Nothing like a tortured hero to capture my heart!
Casandra--I hope you enjoy the book!
Re: Her Knight's Quest (11:59am March 15, 2013):
As a reader, I love a good strong series where you can follow the characters from one book to the next and see how their lives develop.
As a writer, I love it when I hear from readers demanding to know when a particular character is going to get his/her story. 8-D
Re: Her Knight's Quest (11:28am March 15, 2013):
Joanne, I think it's a compliment to the writer when the secondary characters hang on in the reader's memory and leave them wondering just how those folks are doing long after they've read the book.
Carla, I agree that the secondary characters bring out so much more in the hero and heroine.
Re: Her Knight's Quest (11:04am March 15, 2013):
I'm glad all of you love secondary characters as much as I do! I love reading a book and wondering if any of them will get their own story. I think you can also tell a lot about a hero and heroine by the kind of people they surround themselves with.
Karin: I love warren and Kyle, but I also really love Stefan and Ben in that series!
Re: My Lady Mage (10:31am July 3, 2012):
Clare--I wouldn't like to see the horses disappear either! I especially loved the horses in Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series. Lindsey, Bonnie, and Deanna--I appreciate your taking the time to read the interview. I was a reader long before I was a writer, and love sitting down to get lost in a book as often as I can!
Re: My Lady Mage (12:17pm July 3, 2012):
Thanks, everyone! Learning who my characters are has definitely taken me down some interesting paths! I love horses, too, and spent a long time studying the amazing pictures in a book called The Fabulous Horse by Langrish and Sweeney.

Re: My Lady Mage (9:24pm July 2, 2012):
Elaine, I hope you enjoy My Lady Mage if you do give it a try.
Alexis
Re: My Lady Mage (7:02pm July 2, 2012):
Hi, Pam and Denise! Thanks for stopping by. I love strong warriors myself, so writing about these five guys was great fun for me, even if I had to work hard to tease out all their secrets!
Alexis
Re: Stroke of Midnight (6:14pm January 24, 2011):
Congratulations on the new release, my irreverent friend! There's a reason we like to hang out together.
Re: Dark Warrior Untamed (8:24pm August 27, 2010):
I love it when the characters whisper their stories to me, letting me see the world through their eyes. When that happens, I can only smile as I write.
Alexis
Re: Dark Warrior Untamed (7:39pm August 27, 2010):
Cynthia--thanks for the suggestions! Mary and Julie, thanks for stopping by--

Re: Dark Warrior Untamed (5:34pm August 27, 2010):
I've been adding a few new books to my "must read" list! I've enjoy Moning's books, too, and have several favorites from Kenyon's stories--definitely Vane! Jeanne, I'm glad the blog resonated with you. Sounds like you've got quite a hero of your very own! Colleen--always glad to meet another Midnight Rainbow fan. Grant Sullivan is still one of my fave's no matter how many times I've read that book.
Re: Dark Warrior Untamed (11:33am August 27, 2010):
I love Suzanne Brockmann's heroes, too. Especially Sam and Izzy. Bones is great, and I really like Spade, too. Alexis
Re: Darkness Unknown (8:24pm January 28, 2009):
Lisa--thank you for stopping by--and I hope you find that you enjoy both my Paladins and my Talions.
Patricia--I love libraries and all that librarians do for all of us. I hope your patrons appreciate all your hard work for them.
Alexis
Re: Darkness Unknown (5:14pm January 28, 2009):
I want to thank everybody for stopping by to visit! Caron, you've shown great restraint in holding back on reading Jarvis's book until you leave on your trip. You have more will power than I do. And don't tell the other guys, but Trahern still does it for me. As far as what's next for me--I'll be writing a Nocturne Bite next--it's set in the same world as my vampire story and will come out around the same time. Then my plan is to write the next Talion book before returning to the Paladin world. I just turned in the sixth Paladin book, which is scheduled for release next March. My editor hasn't given me the go ahead yet on the next Paladin proposal, so I don't want to say whose book it will be yet. I should know soon, though.
Re: Darkness Unknown (1:40pm January 28, 2009):
Nightmusic--Thank you so much for stopping by. Yeah, Jarvis has been pretty special all along. And that car of his ... I'd love to go cruising through the Ozarks with him and some friends. I'm yelling "shotgun!" so I get the front seat with him. You know, just in case.
