In LETHAL ABANDON, Remy Renaud is a wildlife biologist who finds herself lost in the Everglades. After Joe, who turns out to be a former Viet Nam vet, comes to her aid they are both witnesses to a couple of men who are burying body parts. Forced to kill one in self defense, the other knocked out by Joe, they flee only to find themselves caught up in serial killers who have been on a spree for years. With those who remain in this little group after her, she has to turn to someone.
Micah Rivera, security expert for the Shadow Soldiers, steps in, but Remy doesn't know him and she is not about to trust a man she doesn't know. Even though in her heart she knows she could easily fall in love with this warrior. When the F.B.I. wants to use her as bait, Micah and the Warriors step in and spirit her away. Now both the good guys and the bad are after them and they must work together to survive.
LETHAL ABANDON is book four of Kallie Lane's Shadow Soldiers series and in my eyes they just keep getting better. The action is heart stopping, the tension you can cut with a knife and the love just gets better.
Remy, real name Remington, is a no nonsense woman who was raised with brothers so she thinks she knows all about men. Micah knows security but he is just a bit out of his league when it comes to matters of the heart.
One thing I like about this series, they (the women and men) aren't perfect, things happen where the bad guy seems to be winning, but then they race to the rescue. Some other romantic suspense books I have read, gives the air of invincibility to the hero that sometimes just doesn't ring true, to me Ms. Lane has the right touch.
I fell in love with this series, these soldiers and their women, from the first book, but don't worry if you haven't read them, LETHAL ABANDON is a stand alone. You will of course want to get your hands on the previous books, just because they are that good. This one, along with the others, is on my read again shelf and I hope Ms. Lane has a few more up her sleeve.
When wildlife biologist Remy Renaud gets lost in the
Everglades, she doesn't expect to find a body dumpβand
herself on the Endangered Species list. However, when a
modern day warrior steps in to protect her, she is forced
to
trust a man she doesn't know. A man she could come to
love.
A man she could lose if a killer has his way.
Micah Rivera agrees to hide Remy, but when the FBI decides
to use her as bait to catch the killers, he and his team
spring into action to keep her out of harmβs way. Now with
both law enforcement and murderers on their trail, Micah
is
left in an untenable positionβkeep his team safe and Remy
out of trouble without losing his heart to the woman he
has
sworn to protect.
As Remy and Micah join forces, one thing becomes clear. To
survive, they must defeat the enemy at his own game.
Micah spotted a throng of park rangers gathered around a
picnic table in the distance. A slim woman sat on top.
Fiery-red hair tumbled past her shoulders in thick waves.
Blood dripped down the side of her face and her expression
was wild. She couldnβt seem to focus on the questions being
asked of her by the rangers. Shit.
He nudged Peteβs arm. βLet me handle Remy while you corral
your staff. Theyβre scaring her.β
βGood idea. Sheβll balk if I try to help her anyway, wonβt
want me telling her brothers she couldnβt handle things
herself. See what you can do for her while I question Papa
Joe.β
They broke through the crowd, Pete giving Remyβs hand a
squeeze before moving off with an older man and some of his
rangers. Micah stayed with her, lightly cupping her chin to
catch her attention. She jumped at his touch and tried to
pull away. βEasy, honey. You need to lay down so I can look
at your injuries.β
βI-I donβt need any help.β She was white as a sheet. A
nasty gash oozed over an eye, a bitch of a knife wound
creasing her right thigh beneath a bloodied do-rag.
Man, she was out of it if she thought she could walk away
with those injuries. βYouβre probably right, but humor me.
Okay?β
