Did you ever wonder what way your life would have turned
out
if you had made a different decision at a particular point
in
time? Well this is the story of Hannah Martin, who has
recently returned to L.A. in the hopes of finding where
she
belongs. Having hopped from city to city, she believes
that
living in the place she grew up, and where her best friend
lives, will finally force her to get her life on track.
Having
an unusual relationship with her family, a lingering crush
on
her ex Ethan, and no job, Hannah has plenty to think
about.
But she decides it can wait and hits the town for a night
out. It is Hannah's decision at the end of this night that
splits the tale into the two completely different paths
her
life may take.
If Hannah chooses to leave early with Gabby and her
husband,
she becomes a victim of a hit and run. But through the
pain
and anxiety that follows, Hannah finds her inner strength,
emotionally deals with her family and she may even find
something worth fighting for.
If Hannah chooses to stay with Ethan, she may get her
second
chance with the love of her life, but when a past
relationship
seriously impacts her new future, will Hannah and Ethan be
able to survive?
MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a quirky,
interesting tale of life and love and the different roads
we
may end up taking. I liked the character of Hannah and the
two
different scenarios that she found herself in. For all
that
she seems confused, deep down she is a fighter who is
there
for those that she loves. I enjoyed the idea of two
alternative life plans balancing on a simple choice, and I
definitely have my favourite outcome for Hannah, but I'll
let
you make your own choice. MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE by Taylor
Jenkins Reid is a delightful, contemporary read and I
highly
recommend it.
From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and
After
I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman
whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping
into
an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible
scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results.
At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea
what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six
different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since
graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another
city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and
takes up residence in her best friend Gabby’s guestroom.
Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a
bar
one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school
boyfriend, Ethan.
Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to
go.
A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if
she
wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she
leaves
with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?
In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of
each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop
into radically different stories with large-scale
consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her.
As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in
Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is
anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined
by
chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a
thing as a soul mate?
Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she
believes
she’s found him.
