Nym isn't like other slaves being sold. She's secretly an
Elemental, and a female one at that, meaning she shouldn't
exist. When forced to reveal her abilities, a powerful war
strategist to the king forces her to train to be a weapon
for the country or else. Backed into a corner, Nym agrees,
and everything she knows from that moment on is changed
forever.
When I first received STORM SIREN by Mary Weber, I hoped
it
would be good, but I didn't have any exceptional
expectations (as I usually don't when going into a book).
Not even fifty pages in, STORM SIREN captures your
undivided
attention and takes you through a plot filled with so much
action, intensity, and utter brilliance that readers will
have an awfully hard time trying to put it down.
Weber weaves a clear and decisive prose through the
narration of the main character, Nym. Nym is a powerful
protagonist, full of strength, fierceness, and plenty of
faults that make her growth all the more meaningful. Her
interactions with love interest and super swoony Eogan
sizzle the page, and the walking on eggshell conversations
with her enemies leave chills, but the real beauty is the
conversation and relationship Nym has with herself. She
has
a dark past, and she struggles with it throughout the
whole
novel, not to mention her power terrifies her. The final
scenes will leave you with joy over the excellent
character
development, frustration over the unsolved mysteries, and
most of all, a desperate hunger for the next book.
Readers looking for something original, meaningful, and
powerful should look no further than STORM SIREN.
Brilliantly plotted and nearly magically crafted, Mary
Weber
weaves a story that will stay with you for days after with
no easy cure for the book hangover. Without a doubt, I
have
added a new favorite to my list.
"My hair slips down my back and shoulders and around my
face like fresh snow falling on the forest floor. Pure
white. I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You
don't want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will
destroy you. It's what I do; Seventeen-year-old slave
girl, Nym, should not exist. In a world where Elementals
are only born male, and always killed at birth, she is an
anomaly at best. At worst, people around her die. When a
court emissary identifies her weather-manipulating ability
as a weapon, Nym is purchased and put to work honing her
skills. With time running out for the kingdom of Faelen,
Nym might be all that stands between it and the
technologically-advanced horror racing down upon them;not
to mention the rumored reemergence of the monstrous
shapeshifter, Draewulf. But some elements even she can't
control. Nym must decide whom to trust as she's unleashed
into a world of assassins and political betrayal
surrounding a young king fighting for his throne, a tired
nation that has forgotten its calling, and her handsome
tutor whose dark secrets could destroy both her people and
her heart"--
