"Steamy and Heartful Adult Romance"

Fresh Fiction Review

Romance Historical

For years, Ellie Stratham has patiently (mostly) served her uncle's family to pay off her deceased father's debt. But even though she is part of that family, they treat her as the lowest of servants. To escape, Ellie writes and illustrates fairytales in her room late at night, dreaming of a life of independence. While running an errand for her cousin, Ellie is kidnapped by the notorious scoundrel, Damien Burke, in a case of mistaken identity. Now trapped with her captor during a winter storm, Ellie learns that her safety might not be as much at stake as her heart.

ABDUCTED BY A PRINCE by Olivia Drake is an excellent novel of historical romance. Ellie, while still strong and outspoken when necessary, fits in well with her Victorian world. Drake does a wonderful job of giving her, as well as the other characters, attitudes that wonderfully reflect on their time period, while still making it relatable and enjoyable for modern times. I also love the descriptions of their outfits throughout the story, which definitely adds to the feel of the setting.

The romantic scenes in ABDUCTED BY A PRINCE are completely steamy. Ellie and Damien are an interesting and sweet couple that bond over things I never would have guessed they have in common. Seeing them connect and start to drop their guard around each other is really nice, though their lack of saying how they truly feel (especially towards the end) did get a little frustrating at times. Damien is a particularly engrossing character with his surprising emotional depth.

Though I haven't read any other books in this series, it felt more like a companion book, because all the characters feel new and their backgrounds are well explained. If you enjoy adult romance with hints of fairytale elements, then ABDUCTED BY A PRINCE is a great book to look at.

SUMMARY

She’s not waiting for her prince. He’s not looking for a bride. But sometimes the most unlikely love stories end in ‘happily ever after’…

SHE WAS STOLEN AWAY

Ellie Stratham gave up her childhood dreams of a fairy tale romance long ago. To repay her late father’s debts, she’s forced to serve her spoiled cousin, Lady Beatrice. But Ellie has devised a secret plan to escape her life as a drudge. A plan that is thrown into jeopardy when she’s abducted by a mysterious stranger.

BUT CAN HE STEAL HER HEART?

A notorious seducer of women—and a scoundrel to boot—Damien Burke has earned his nickname as the Demon Prince. But his plot to kidnap Lady Beatrice to make her brother return a priceless heirloom backfires—and he ends up with their penniless cousin Ellie as his hostage. By the time Damien realizes his mistake, he and his fiery-willed captive are trapped in a remote castle during a wild winter storm. And he soon finds that the true hostage may be his own heart.
