Charlotte and Emily Brontë constantly argue. In almost every
aspect, they are complete opposites, with the one exception
of a love for writing. When two strangers show up to the
famous moors they live on, a real life mystery takes shape.
Charlotte and Emily will have to put aside their differences
if they want to solve this case.
ALWAYS EMILY by Michaela MacColl is a delightful historical
fiction about the famous Brontë sisters. Perfect for fans of
Sharon Cameron, it blends mystery, history, and a dash of
romance. The moors will truly keep you on your feet and have
you guessing what is really going on with the Heaton family.
The suspense throughout is absolutely wonderful.
What I love most about this book is the sisterhood between
Charlotte and Emily. They bicker constantly, but their bond
is still so strong. I love the focus on that bond throughout
the story and how they both learn to rely on each other when
things get really tough. Their individual personalities are
also incredibly fun to read. Charlotte is so poised and
proper, and I love the strong hold she takes on dignity.
Emily is brash and bold, and the side romance between her
and Harry is both hilarious and intriguing. Her carefree
attitude makes for excellent dialogue between them, but I
adore the realistic conclusion MacColl gives them.
Overall, I love parts of the story, but the pacing is a
little slow at parts. The writing is still very well done,
and the story is worth the read. I will definitely look for
more from this author, and I would recommend ALWAYS EMILY to
any fans of young adult historical fiction.
Emily and Charlotte Brontë are about as opposite as two
sisters can be. Charlotte is practical and cautious; Emily
is headstrong and imaginative. But they do have one thing in
common: a love of writing. This shared passion will lead
them to be two of the first published female novelists and
authors of several enduring works of classic literature. But
they're not there yet. First, they have to figure out if
there is a connection between a string of local burglaries,
rumors that a neighbor's death may not have been accidental,
and the appearance on the moors of a mysterious and handsome
stranger. The girls have a lot of knots to untangle— before
someone else gets killed.
