Young Adult | Young Adult Paranormal

Maggie Raynard thought she was your average 16 year old girl. All that changed one night when her fingers put her ex-boyfriend in a coma. Of course that is when her mother decides to tell her that she is a semi-god, descending from Aphrodite. Since her mother and her grandmother had their powers binded when they were 17, She didn't think to tell Maggie, however Maggie is coming into her powers early and is struggling to keep them under control.

Mac Finnegan, another semi-god has been sent by the council to watch Maggie and determine if she is a threat and should be stripped of her memories and powers or killed. But there is something about Maggie that makes her different from the other semi-gods that he has tracked down. Its obvious that no one has bothered to tell her anything about what she is or the laws for their kind.

Maggie has a crazy attraction to the new guy Mac. One minute she wants to kiss him, the next she wants to beat him over the head. When he tells her he can help her, she is not sure what to think. When he explains to her what plans the council has for her, she is dead set against being brought in front of he council to loose her powers, since it will most likely erase any memory she has of her dad. She takes Mac head on in his attempts to break her.

I really like Maggie's character. She is the perfect blend of sassy teenager, but she also has a more compassionate side. She is concerned about her ailing Grandmother, and even has gone to visit the boy she put in a coma every week.

Christine O'Neil is a new author for me. I love her take on Greek Mythology and how her writing style has the reader thinking that the characters are speaking directly to them instead of the reader feeling like they are listening to their internal ramblings. There also wasn't much of a back story on Maggie or even the Council and what their laws and such are. I am hoping that as the series continues, the more the back story will continue to develop.

SUMMARY

My name is Maggie Raynard. After sixteen years being just plain me, suddenly, when I lose my temper, my fingers become weapons of mass destruction. Turns out I'm a semi-god, descended from Aphrodite. Sounds cool in theory, but when I accidentally put my ex-boyfriend in a coma, things go downhill pretty fast.

Now some new guy named Mac Finnegan has made it his mission in life to continually piss me off. I'm stuck learning how to use my new powers while also dealing with regular high school problems, and with this annoying—and super-hot—guy all up in my business, I'm about to flip out.

But it gets worse. I just learned there's this watchdog council of semis who keeps an eye out for any bad apples. They think I'm the baddest of the bunch and want to take me out before I do any more damage. My nemesis Mac might turn out to be my salvation, only he's got secrets of his own...and they may just kill us both.
