In the first book of the series, Slammed, Lake and Will
have fallen deeply in love. However, that newfound passion
for each other will be tested like no other in the second
book of the series, POINT OF RETREAT.
Questions arise when someone from Will's pasts shatters the
very ground that Lake stands on. Secrets are starting to
block her in and when Lake doubts Will's feelings for her,
their relationship takes a sharp turn for the worse.
Though the setup of this book isn't exactly my favorite
trope, I do believe that it needed to happen to prove to
the characters and the readers that their love runs deep.
This challenge not only questions their love, but it also
questions their characters and this time, right and wrong
don't seem as black and white as they used to be.
Told from Will's perspective, readers get a closer glimpse
into Lake's lover's life and sees just how tortured he can
be. We see his mistakes and his efforts to absolve them,
creating a richly nuanced character that you cannot help
but love.
One of the most unique things about this series is it's
focused on slam poetry. So vastly different from what's out
there, Hoover places it into these stories so that they
feel like a performance. Each piece is moving and will
touch reader's hearts, just as they do with the characters
in the stories.
A guaranteed tearjerker, POINT OF RETREAT is stunningly
moving and brilliant. Hoover possesses immense talent to
touch so many people with her words.
Sometimes two people have to fall apart to realize just how
much they belong together.
Colleen Hoover entranced readers everywhere with her
bestselling novel Slammed, the book that introduced Layken
and Will, a young couple whose love overcame devastating
hardships to emerge stronger and more resilient than
before. Now, as Layken and Will’s emotion-packed story
continues, a stunning and unforeseen revelation about
Will’s past leaves them questioning everything that they
thought they knew about each other. With the foundation of
their relationship at risk, they must decide whether they
are willing to fight for a future together, or to retreat
back into solitude and heartache.
How far does Will have to go to prove to Layken his love
for her will last forever? It will require something truly
extraordinary to keep this couple together, and the
decisions they make and the answers they find will change
not only their lives, but the lives of everyone around them.
