A female bull rider beating the men in fair competition -
not everyone approves, but the last thing Florentine
McDougal expected was that her new sponsor would withdraw
support. The RODEO REBEL can handle the whiplash-inducing
rides, the jeers of the cowboys and loneliness of the
circuit, and survives a crashing fall with just concussion
and muscle strain thanks to a body protector. But Cole
Reardon, new owner of a grain firm, decides he can't in
good conscience pay her to take such risks.
Cole tries to break the contract but can't; he sees
Florentine laid up in hospital, determined to get out and
fly to her sister's wedding in Montana, and decides to take
her there himself in the hope of talking sense into her.
This means taking along his seven-year-old daughter, who is
just the right age to enjoy having a family around her.
Cole being widowed, she is delighted with female company
and gets spoiled by all concerned. Cole and Sarah are made
very welcome and seeing Florentine away from the rodeo ring
makes Cole appreciate her as a woman. For her part, she
finds him attractive too, and she tries to make him
appreciate her need to stand up for young women who want to
lead their own lives and choose their own career paths, be
it ranching or teaching science. At the end of ten days
Florentine has another bone-jarring ride to face, to see if
she qualifies for the final and can turn professional next
year. She begins to question her priorities when she and
Cole can't keep their hands off each other, but no summer
romance is going to stand between her and her goal.
Debra Kayn has written a solid romance which is a twist on
the usual cowboy tale. The rodeo details are excellently
described but I did find that the domestic middle of the
tale was slow by comparison. Florentine is a superb
character, just vulnerable enough to be real. Give RODEO
REBEL a try to remind you to take risks every now and then,
while wearing the right safety equipment!
When widower and land baron Cole Reardon acquired the Turner Grain Corporation, he didn't know the company sponsored a bull rider. He refuses to support thrill–seekers dumb enough to get on the back of a crazed animal. He's not willing to risk his fortune and livelihood when he has his daughter's well–being to consider. Not even when the bull rider is the sexiest woman he's ever seen.
Bull rider Florentine McDougal plans to turn pro after the season championship, fulfilling her lifelong dream of succeeding in a man's world. That is, until Cole Reardon shows up and threatens to break his sponsorship contract with her. Now everything she's worked for is less than eight seconds away from being destroyed.
Cole distracts Florentine with his sexy mouth and unreasonable demands, and he's not going to compromise his integrity. But she's not going to let him loose until she has pro status. And neither will come away from this dust–up unscathed.
