TIGER EYE is a wonderfully written book. I am a big fan of
Marjorie M. Liu and this reissue of the first book in the
Dirk & Steele series is a great start.
Having grown up around things that are sometimes
unexplainable, Dela finds herself right in the middle of her
own magical mystery when she begins her travels in China.
She finds herself solving a magical puzzle box and becoming
the mistress of Hari who is a two thousand year old shifter
who was cursed to the box and must be a slave to its owners.
Dela decides that she is going to break Hari's curse, and
while doing so the two begin to fall in love. They are not
only fighting to keep Dela safe but also to keep the magic
of the puzzle box away from the evil Magi that want it for
their own gain. This book is full of magic and shape
shifters that include tigers, dragons, and more. Dela and
Hari are a great couple. Each is willing to fight for their
love showing how deep their feelings run.
I love the magic and mystery in this story. From a cursed
puzzle box that holds Hari to the evil Magi, this book has
it all. I enjoyed watching the love between Dela and Hari
bloom. Dela is a strong woman who can hold her own. Hari is
a shape shifter who will fight for those he loves, and Dela
is just that. As Dela and Hari fight the enemy we get to
meet some other great characters like Artur and Roland.
Marjorie M. Liu weaves a wondrous story that pulls the
reader in right from the start and keeps you entertained
all the way to the end. With a great mix of romance and
adventure this is a book that should not be missed.
The first book in Marjorie M. Liu's extraordinary Dirk &
Steele Series! Long ago they roamed the earth — dragons,
tigers . . . shapeshifters — men who wore the forms of
beasts. Their world was magic. Now it is gone. But some
remain . . . He looks out of place in Dela Reese’s Beijing
hotel room— exotic and poignant, some mythic, tragic hero
of an epic tale. With his feline yellow eyes, he’s like
nothing from her world. Yet Dela has danced through the
echo of his soul and knows this warrior will obey her
every command. Hari has been used and abused for
millennia. But he sees, upon his release from the riddle
box, that this new mistress is different. There is a
hidden power in Dela’s eyes—and with her, he may regain
all that was lost to him. Where once he savaged, now he
must protect; where before he knew only hatred, now he
must embrace love. Dela is the key. For Dela, he will risk
all.
