Romance Suspense

English professor Elizabeth Stevens isn't who she appears to be. She's really Sofia Desalvo, veterinarian, who is in witness protection. Elizabeth had to leave behind her close-knit extended family when she witnessed a murder involving fixed horse races. She's doing everything right, following the rules, knowing that a very powerful man wants her dead. Too bad it's such a lonely life. Her two comforts are the breakfasts she spends with the town's sheriff, Wilson Drake, and the girls' nights out she shares with three other newcomers to tiny Drake Springs, Florida.

When one of the quartet goes missing and then turns up dead, Elizabeth is concerned but not for herself, at first. Cathleen Hodges was the town's new veterinarian and bears a strong resemblance to the pre-WitSec Sofia. Who would want Cathleen dead? Sure, she had an abusive relationship in her past, but that was a few years back. As the mystery involving Cathleen's murder deepens, Elizabeth finds herself growing closer to Wil. Too bad she can't allow herself to fall for him.

Does the murder have anything to do with Elizabeth's relocation? Will Elizabeth be forced to move yet again and assume another identity? Can she resist Wil's overtures or will she fall for a man to whom she can never tell the truth? When another member of the quartet disappears, Elizabeth knows her time in Drake Springs is limited. Will she make it out alive?

RECLAIM MY LIFE is a somewhat sweet romantic suspense that will keep readers glued to the pages until the very end. I figured out the identity of the bad guy early on but readers should enjoy picking up the clues and hints to the culprit. If you can look past a few unrealistic moments, Ms. Norman's second Mustang Sally book should please fans of romantic suspense.

SUMMARY

When Sofia Desalvo enters the witness security program, she transforms her sleek, sophisticated image into nondescript English professor Elizabeth Stevens, hoping to quietly disappear in the safety of a small Southern town. Organized-crime boss Frank Sullivan—a respected doctor accused of racketeering and murder—has a contract out on Elizabeth, and her only hope is to survive long enough to testify against him in court. When two women close to Elizabeth are brutally murdered, small-town sheriff Wilson Drake steps in to solve the mystery and instead falls head over heels for the professor who, despite her best efforts, still emanates the charisma and charm of Sophia Desalvo. As the investigation deepens, so do Wilson’s feelings for Elizabeth, and he soon realizes that he must solve the violent murders quickly to prevent the woman he loves from becoming the next victim.
