Wealthy Rachel and Daniel Stroeb are murdered in their
Miami Beach home late one night. Their 16-year-old
daughter, Elisa, slipped out of the house and missed being
the third victim. In a state of shock, 22-year-old Jeremy
Stroeb returns from wandering through Europe to find he
missed his parents' funerals. Always irresponsible, Jeremy
finds himself saddled with guardianship of his sister who
can barely function.
Believing the cops are stumped, Jeremy cooks up a scheme to
flush out the killer. He begins night school at the college
where his controversial and contentious father taught.
During the day, Jeremy takes a job at the accounting firm
where his mother worked. As he looks for a connection,
Jeremy discovers his parents' imperfections and he is
unable to cope with his discoveries. He struggles under the
weight of his responsibilities and inadvertently prods the
killer into more deadly action.
Ms. Potts debuts with a novel that contains all the
elements for good mystery suspense. The plot, with its
twist and labyrinth turns, keeps readers on the edge of
their seats. However, the main character comes across as a
bit selfish and immature, making it hard to care about him.
Jeremy leaves his sister repeatedly in their home at night
with her horrific memories of the murders, while he enters
into a questionable relationship. His sister and
grandfather take a back seat to his wants.
Born into a life of privilege, Jeremy Stroeb loves
freedom, loathes responsibility and drops out of college
to start backpacking across Europe. But this free-spirited
drifter crashes back to brutal reality when his parents,
Rachel and Daniel Stroeb, are murdered in their home on
Miami Beach. When he returns to Miami, Jeremy assumes
guardianship of his teenage sister, Elise, who is
traumatized and convinced the killer will be back for
her. With steely, urgent resolve, Jeremy vows to find out
what really happened to Rachel Stroeb, the respected CPA
and Daniel Stroeb, the controversial professor.Determined
to get on the inside of his parents' lives, Jeremy takes a
job at the accounting firm where his mother worked, and
enrolls at the university where his father taught. But too
many details don't add up. With mounting certainty that

were, Jeremy must face the toughest questions of all. Who
