This slim volume of poetry and photography focuses on major
life themes: adoration, music, death and dying, heartbreak,
Christian holidays, nature and natural phenomena and
spirituality. Brown's free verse is easily accessible to
any age group, but more appropriate for young adults and up.
Brown's poems unfold in a nonlinear matter, not being
grouped by subject or chronology. This choice demands more
of a reader, but lends a feeling of free association to the
text. For example, the poem The One Who Will Still Be
There, which reads like a prayer to God for the seasons, is
followed by Music:
The sound of rain gently striking the fallen leaves
Makes you feel you are the only one
Hearing the music that softly plays through the rain
Most engaging in this Kansas native's fledgling efforts is
her ability to simplify language and bring it to a level
that anyone can master and enjoy.
