Nan Cloutier is a temp girl. Her job requires her to don
costumes and hand out candy in department stores, or
perform some other function, such as elf for the department
store Santa. She wants a stable career as much as the next
liberal arts major. Of course, she also wants a stable
relationship, something else she hasn't had much luck at.
But that was before she met Colm, the grandson of the
department store owner. Is Colm really what she wants, or
is she just looking for something different?
CALENDAR GIRL is a look at life from the single woman's
perspective in Manhattan. I enjoyed the story, especially
Nan's take on job descriptions. It wasn't as hard to put
down as some of the suspense stories I've read, but the
characters are great, most especially Nan's family. A good
book to curl up with on a winter's day, hot chocolate at
hand. A good read.
Address: Follow the gang graffiti until you reach
the decrepit bakery. See the rooms above that even a
squatter wouldn't claim? That's my little Manhattan
paradise.
Education: Liberal Arts degree from an Ivy League
university. In other words, totally useless.
Employment History: Cheer Facilitator for Seasonal
Staffers Inc. Positions include Cindy-Lou Who Impersonator,
Valentine's Day Purple Box of Chocolates, and Easter Egg-
Carrying Girl in Bunny Suit. Responsible for spreading
merriment and not throttling fellow employees or irritating
seasonal shoppers, as appropriate.
Career Goal: To seek stable livelihood as. . . .
Heck. Is there a career track that will rid my apartment of
my competitive brothers and a father who's exploring his
metrosexuality? Or prevent my old college crush from
marrying the mistake of his life? Or get me through a year
of flash mobs, karaoke bars, Greek weddings, snuggle
parties, and my family's attempts at a total 'make-better'
of myself? Or maybe, just maybe, helps me attract the
attention of the department store heir of my dreams?
