When journalist Dylan Alexander stumbled upon a hidden
tomb, she considered the find appropriate for the low-end
magazine she wrote for and began snapping pictures. Her
boss agrees and orders her to extend her vacation and come
up with more pictures and a story to go along with the
ancient drawings on the cave wall. What Dylan doesn't
realize is that she's stumbled onto a secret tomb belonging
to The Breed, and it is being guarded by one of the
fiercest, most lethal of the brotherhood, Rio.
Charged with a mission he hasn't completed and fueled with
pain and rage over the betrayal of a loved one, Rio has a
plan beyond his mission. His plans to end it all are
interrupted by the beautiful Dylan and the photographs
she's taken. No longer can he focus on his own agenda, for
Dylan's discovery threatens to reveal The Breed to the
world. She must be stopped.
Complications arise when Rio discovers that Dylan is not
all that she seems. A small birthmark identifies her as a
Breedmate, most revered by Rio's kind. He brings Dylan to
Boston, to Darkhaven, where Dylan meets others of The
Breed. At first disbelieving, Dylan gradually comes to
accept the mission of this group of warriors and develops a
deep attraction for the mysterious Rio.
When some of the oldest of The Breed begin disappearing
only to turn up murdered and when Dylan begins seeing the
ghosts of young women with the mark identifying them as
Breedmates, the warriors of Darkhaven realize there is an
evil plotting to bring down the brotherhood. Rio is now
charged with the mission of discovering who, or what, is
behind the threat before Dylan becomes the next victim.
MIDNIGHT RISING by Lara Adrian is book four in the
Midnight Breed series, and fans are in for a treat. Dylan
and Rio are multifaceted characters, deeply emotional and
torn between those they love and duty to something greater
than both. The supporting characters of Darkhaven are
fascinating and well-developed (I really hope Niko's story
is in the works!), and Ms. Adrian has a gift for drawing
her readers deeper and deeper into the amazing worlds she
creates. The evil at work in MIDNIGHT RISING is frightening
and chilling in its foreshadowing of the future for those
at Darkhaven. I eagerly await the next installment of this
entertaining series!
In a world of shadows and dark, cosuming hungers, desire
is the deadliest weapon...
For journalist Dylan
Alexander, it began with the discovery of a hidden tomb,
thrusting her into the center of a gathering storm of
violence and secrets. But nothing is as dangerous as the
scarred, lethally seductive man who rises from the shadows
to draw her into his world of dark desire and endless
night.
Fueled by pain and rage over a shattering
betrayal, the warrior Rio has pledged his life to the war
against the Rogues. He will let nothing stand in his way—
least of all a mortal woman with the power to expose the
entire vampire race. For an ancient evil has been
awakened, and a stunning darkness is on the rise. Suddenly
Dylan is powerless to resist Rio’s touch, even as she
uncovers a shocking link to her own past. And now she must
choose: Leave Rio’s midnight realm, or risk it all for the

pleasures of the heart. . . .
