Mystery Woman Sleuth
Melanie Vargas' life is turning around. Her divorce is
final, her career is heading in the right direction, and
her love life seems to be moving at an appropriate speed
when she is handed a pivotal case that just may determine
her future as a federal prosecutor for the U.S. District
Attorney's Office. Suzanne Shepard is an unmerciful celebrity reporter who
doesn't care who she destroys as long as she remains on
top. Hated by many, she will stop at nothing to snag the
story and put the faces of the rich and famous on
television so that she may expose their crimes for all of
America to see. When a tip after-hours sends her into the
wrong part of Central Park, Suzanne unfortunately meets
her match and winds up brutally murdered by someone
desperately seeking to keep the secrets she is poised to
reveal. Melanie Vargas, known for having a stomach of steel,
winds up assigned to the case as the lead prosecutor with
her favorite sexy FBI agent Dan O'Reilly in tow. Mixing
business with pleasure is never a smart move, but with her
lover/protector at her side, Melanie feels quite capable
of being able to bring the perpetrator to justice while at
the same time, moving her relationship forward which is
exactly where she wants to be. As the suspect list quickly grows longer, Melanie finds
herself face to face with a hip personal trainer who is
dabbling in drugs, a Park Avenue plastic surgeon with a
suspicious past, and finally a political powerhouse who
just happens to be the father of one of her closest
colleagues. When Melanie becomes the killer's next
target, she must rely on her instincts and especially Dan
to put the ruthless psycho behind bars before time runs
out and he strikes again. COVER-UP is the third novel in Martinez's Melanie Vargas
series. Her professional background lends to the
credibility of her work as does her fast-paced and at
times gruesomely realistic crime scenes. The popularity of
her novels puts her name at the top as one of the
brightest, rising stars in suspense. Her character
development and attention to detail make the reader want
for more while the chemistry between her lead characters
makes her novels steamy enough to appeal even to the
romance reader crowd. Michele Martinez has most definitely
found her niche.

SUMMARY
Television
reporter Suzanne Shepard was a ruthless celebrity
scandalmonger with a
roster of high-profile enemies. But which one left her
mutilated,
lifeless body in the dark recesses of New York's Central
Park? Federal
prosecutor Melanie Vargas needs to find out. Was it the
sinister Park Avenue plastic surgeon with a secret past? Or
the trendy
personal trainer selling recreational drugs to his rich
clients? Or the
ambitious city power broker who also happens to be the
father of one of
Melanie's best friends? Sifting through the scandals that
fueled the
dead reporter's career is what keeps Melanie from obsessing
about her
own intense affair with sexy FBI agent Dan O'Reilly.
But
there's more at risk than Melanie's heart. She's been receiving
chilling e-mails from an anonymous "admirer" who knows way
too much
about the murder—and about Melanie's every move. If Melanie
doesn't
find the killer soon, it will be her own death that
makes headlines.
