Sports agent Heath Champion has done it all. He's signed
world-class clients to amazing contracts and has been
ruthless and methodical in the negotiations. Better known
in the sporting world as the Python, he's burned a few
bridges while climbing up the ladder and making a name for
himself including with Phoebe Calebow (IT HAD TO BE YOU),
owner of the Chicago Stars professional football team.
Employing the same tactics, he's decided he's had enough of
the single, commitment-free life and is ready to settle
down and get married. His solution to finding that person
is as calculated and brutal as his way of tackling
negotiations. He will find a matchmaker. Everything is
simple and clear, he has a plan. That is until Annabelle
Granger, would-be matchmaker of Perfect for You walks, or
rather stumbles, into his office. Convinced by Kevin
Tucker's wife, Molly (THIS HEART OF MINE), to give
Annabelle a shot, Heath agrees to a meeting. Annabelle has
just inherited her Nana's company and while she's
enthusiastic and determined, she's not known for business
sense, unlike her extremely successful family.
Unfortunately for Annabelle, Heath has just hired expert
matchmaker Portia Powers, and Annabelle must pull out all
the stops to convince Heath she's the best person for the
job. Annabelle's first attempt at a trial match is a
glowing success, and Heath is exceedingly impressed. Gwen
is a perfect compliment to Heath and is not only beautiful,
but intelligent. Unbeknownst to Heath, however, this is all
a trick as Gwen is also very happily married and a good
friend of Annabelle. Heath hires both Annabelle and Portia
Powers, and the pursuit for the perfect mate begins.
Along the way, Heath not only begins to rely heavily on
Annabelle's abilities, but is impressed by how comfortable
she is with the Chicago Stars players. The path to true
love, or in Heath's situation an amicable marriage, rarely
moves smoothly and both Annabelle and Portia compete until
the bitter end. Who will be the perfect mate for Heath, and
will his growing fascination with Annabelle inhibit his
willingness to truly fall in love? That's the final
question.
Fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips' Chicago Stars
novels will truly enjoy Heath and Annabelle's story.
Phillips' whimsical and unique characters are so delightful
that they jump right off the page. In the end, the story is
so charmingly presented that you sit their yearning for
Heath and Annabelle, not to mention laughing out loud about
situations each get into. A great story!
Annabelle is tired of being the lone failure in a family of
overachievers. She's endured dead-end jobs and a broken
engagement. Even her hair's a mess! But that's going to
change now that she's taken over her late grandmother's
matchmaking business. All Annabelle has to do is land the
Windy City's hottest bachelor as her client, and she'll be
the most sought-after matchmaker in town. Nothing is going
to stand in her way -- not the drunk lying comatose under
her car, not her family's disapproval, and certainly not
the lingering effects of a broken heart.
With his money green eyes and calculated charm, Heath
Champion is the best sports agent in the country. He's
wealthy, driven, and gorgeous, so why does he need a
matchmaker, especially a red-haired screw-up like Annabelle
Granger? True, she's entertaining, and she does have a
certain quirky appeal. But Heath is searching for the
ultimate symbol of his success -- the perfect wife. And to
make an extraordinary match, he needs an extraordinary
matchmaker, right?
Thin, rich, utterly fabulous Portia Powers has spent her
career making matches for everyone but herself. Her take-no-
prisoners attitude has built Power Matches into the top
matchmaking agency in Chicago. So what if she has more
enemies than friends and she's one breath away from a
nervous breakdown? Neither an upstart like Annabelle
Granger nor Heath Champion's menacing, but oddly
intriguing, bodyguard, will keep her from getting what she
wants -- a Power Match for Heath . . . the city's very own
Jerry Maguire.
Soon everyone in Chicago has a stake in the outcome, right
down to Annabelle's overprotective book club. When the
matchmaker promises she'll do anything to keep her star
client happy . . . does she mean anything? If Annabelle
isn't careful, she just might find herself going heart-to-
heart with the toughest negotiator in town -- a man who's
beginning to ask himself: Exactly how perfect does perfect
have to be?
