Ross Raisin was born in Keighley in West Yorkshire, England, in 1979. He grew up on Ilkley Moor before moving to London to study English at Kings College. After gaining a first class degree, he took some time out to serve wine and cigars to red-cheeked lawyers in the city, and then went to study Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. During his time at Goldsmiths, he began writing the novel that became Out Backward. It took 3 years to write while he was working as a waiter. Once completed, it was picked up by Peter Straus and subsequently published in the U.K., the U.S., Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. Ross has subsequently written several short stories and journalistic pieces.
