Aarav Rai should be living the glamorous life. After all, he’s the son and oldest heir of a wealthy businessman and a multimillionaire in his own right, thanks to the lucrative sales of his first novel. Instead, Aarav has been haunted by his mom’s disappearance ten years ago and disabled by a recent car accident that has left him with a throbbing pain in his booted foot. Now, his past memories are tormenting Aarav as his mother’s dead body has been found not too far from where they live. She was the victim of murder, which means someone Aarav knows could be a murderer... But can justice be had after all of these years?
Wow! I had a hard time putting QUIET IN HER BONES down as Nalini Singh kept me wrapped up in the dark mysteries of Aarav’s world. It’s hard not to like Aarav, despite his own negative view of himself. His kindness and protection over his little sister, Pari, and his stepmother, Shanti, shine through every interaction he has about or with them. I love how his therapy reports are interwoven throughout the tale, especially considering how unreliable he is as a narrator. Heck, even he questions his own memories and behaviors!
QUIET IN HER BONES takes readers deep into the dark underbelly of a seemingly wealthy and privileged neighborhood, showing us the scars and pains that lie beneath the surface. Seemingly everyone has a shady history and a possible motive for murdering Nina Rai, but who was actually guilty of doing so? One thing I particularly enjoyed about QUIET IN HER BONES is that Nalini Singh not only shows us the dark shadows in the lives of her various characters, but she also highlights their strengths and acts of kindness to fully develop their characters.
Nalini Singh has always been loved for her phenomenal and long-running paranormal series, but QUIET IN HER BONES shows that she is a master at the thriller genre as well. The twists and turns keep the reader guessing as no one is safe from suspicion, not even the narrator himself. QUIET IN HER BONES is a must-read for all fans of thriller novels, and I hope Nalini Singh writes more in this genre as I’m absolutely blown away by how fabulous QUIET IN HER BONES is!
