Thriller Political

When an accident is no accident, it can be hard to prove! Forced off the road by an unseen vehicle and seeing a good friend killed, Senator Porter Smalls knows just who is just the right investigator to prove his version of events, even if the cops all think otherwise.

Knocked out of the U.S. Senate two and one-half years earlier by the powerful and deadly U.S. Senator Taryn Grant, Smalls feels deep in his blood that somehow Grant is behind this latest assassination attack. He is glad the citizens in Minnesota believe in him and voted Smalls back in as Senator after losing the previous election. The psychopath Grant had been doing her mischief before, but now is even more powerful as she now has a seat on the Senate Intelligence Committee and can access even more information than before. U.S. Marshall Lucas Davenport believes Smalls is right on the money too as he had dealings with Grant before. Yet, how can he prove this when there is no evidence?

Bestselling author John Sandford has created a very compelling look at the ugliness of political corruption in TWISTED PREY, his 28th mystery in his Prey series. While the series may be getting a little long in the tooth for some readers, those who like Lucas Davenport like him a lot and, like me, are sure to be pleased with this latest installment. Lucas is a little older and feels pain a little longer, but the rich and action-loving Lucas is still as droll and sharp- witted as in previous books in the series.

While TWISTED PREY can also easily be enjoyed as a standalone mystery, Sandford fans will be thrilled with the return of other favourite characters, such as Lucas' wife Weather, his daughter Letty, and Bob and Rae. Davenport's nemesis, Senator Taryn Grant also was previously introduced in SILKEN PREY.

With his background as a journalist and a good eye for painting, Sandford has a very vivid and high impact style. As he moves the development of the plot between fast-paced and suspenseful action to more research-oriented work to what is needed to bring this case to justice while exposing the political corruption of Senator Grant. Warning: TWISTED PREY is a very hard novel to put down once you start turning the pages! Great summer or any time reading!

SUMMARY

Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before.

A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the U.S. Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again.

He was right. A federal marshal now, with a very wide scope of investigation, he's heard rumors that Grant has found her seat on the Senate intelligence committee, and the contacts she's made from it, to be very...useful. Pinning those rumors down was likely to be just as difficult as before, and considerably more dangerous.

But they had unfinished business, he and Grant. One way or the other, he was going to see it through to the end.
