Thriller Psychological | Thriller

Ella Broden never got to follow her dream. By day, Ella Broden is a lawyer just like her father and works at his law firm. But at night, she gets to pursue her dream of singing in clubs around the city. Ella has a younger sister Charlotte who is in college. One day they meet for lunch, and Charlotte tells her she is publishing a book. That is the last time that Ella saw her sister. She receives a call from Charlotte's boyfriend Zach—her sister is missing. Ella decides to read what Charlotte had written in her novel, perhaps there is some kind of clue there. If what Charlotte wrote in her novel was in any way true, Charlotte was seeing three different men. Ella goes to the police and runs into an old flame, Detective Gabriel Velasquez. They dated a few years back, but nothing came of it. Gabriel assures Ella that he will help any way he can. While trying to find her sister, Ella also has her own case with another old flame Paul. One of the women that Paul works with has also come up missing. Are these two cases related? Paul claims he knows nothing about this woman missing. After some digging, they find out that he was having an affair with these women. Plus several things about Paul seem to fit some of the storylines that are in Charlotte's book. Ella is dead certain Paul is involved in both of these crimes. Wow, Adam Mitzner what can I say. This storyline is great. I can't even imagine what someone goes through when a family member is missing. I enjoyed how Mitzner shows the love between these two sisters. I also liked how the author used Charlotte's novel as a way for Ella to piece together the facts about her sister's disappearance. This story has mystery and romance, two of my favorites when I read a book.

SUMMARY

Ella Broden is living a double life. By day, Ella works as a buttoned-up attorney on some of the city’s most grueling cases. By night, she pursues her passion for singing in the darkest clubs of Manhattan. No one knows her secret, not even Charlotte, the younger sister she practically raised. But it seems she’s not the only one in the family with something to hide. When Charlotte announces she’s sold her first novel, Ella couldn’t be more thrilled…until she gets a call that her sister’s gone missing. Ella starts investigating with the help of Detective Gabriel Velasquez, an old flame in the NYPD, and what she finds is shocking. If art imitates life, then her sister’s novel may contain details of her real-life affairs. And any one of her lovers could be involved in her disappearance. Desperate to bring Charlotte home, Ella works through her list of suspects, matching fictitious characters with flesh-and-blood men. But will it be too late to save the sister she only thought she knew?
