Romance Historical

GOOD DUKES WEAR BLACK is Book 3 in the Lords of Anarchy series by Manda Collins. The hero and heroine in GOOD DUKES WEAR BLACK make an interesting combination—a former soldier-turned Duke and a lady newspaper columnist. While they might appear to be mismatched at first glance, Trent and Ophelia develop a strong connection and prove to be effective investigators in an intricate and vexing mystery. As they work together in GOOD DUKES WEAR BLACK, their assumptions about each other are proved false, and they end up liking each other more than they ever thought they would.

When Ophelia Dauntry's good friend and colleague Maggie Grayson is abducted, Ophelia immediately gets to work trying to find her and discover who is behind it. What follows is an exquisite gothic tale of abductions, insane asylums, and perilous encounters. Piers Hamilton, Duke of Trent lets Ophelia drag him into the investigation because Maggie's husband is a friend of his, and because the Lords of Anarchy driving club he's president of is a natural target for suspicion. Just when you think you've got things figured out, the unexpected happens to throw a wrench in the works. This level of unpredictability amps up the excitement and provides a lot of thrilling revelations. As with the previous books in the Lords of Anarchy series, Manda Collins skillfully blends romance and mystery.

Ophelia and Trent are prepared for the worst, but in the end are surprised with how easily they fit together and how much they grow to like each other. It's amusing how Trent and Ophelia's friends realize the depth of their feelings before they do. The sexual tension in GOOD DUKES WEAR BLACK make for some electric and super sexy scenes. The trust that develops between Trent and Ophelia, and easy familiarity, makes the passion between them hotter.

Manda Collins mixes history and fiction to tell a harrowing and dazzling tale of mystery and romance in GOOD DUKES WEAR BLACK. Manda Collins does a marvelous job of creating a strong, intelligent heroine while recognizing and describing some of the dangers for women in that bygone age. I am intrigued by some of the new characters introduced in GOOD DUKES WEAR BLACK and will keep an eye out for them in future stories by Manda Collins.

SUMMARY

A writer for the Ladies Gazette, Miss Ophelia Dauntry’s passion is her pen. So when she sees a fellow writer kidnapped before her eyes—and the trail of evidence leads to the Lords of Anarchy—Ophelia vows to find her friend and take down the notorious London driving club in her column. But before she can argue her case, she needs the inside scoop from its newest leader: Piers Hamilton, the Duke of Trent.

Headstrong, handsome Trent joined the Lords of Anarchy after a decade in the British Army. He’s made it his business to tame the misbehavior within the driving club— and the infuriatingly attractive Ophelia is only getting in his way. The deeper she digs into the case, the more she puts her own life at risk. Can Trent convince Ophelia to trust him to seek justice…and find protection, and passion, in his arms?
