Honey Cafferty's a lady with a wagon in Two Mule, West
Texas. She has a friend who collects herbs and prepares
potions and elixirs, and today they've got a so-called
Elixir of Love to sell. The amusing novella SWEETER THAN
HONEY is set in 1880. At this time a lady
can't rightly talk about improving a man's capabilities in
the bedroom. So Honey has to embroider upon some fancy
words, and hope the respectable women in town get the
message.
Joe Tanner is sheriff here, unmarried and not fixing to
change in a hurry. He likes Two Mule nice and peaceful, but
something about Honey and her wagon throws everyone into a
tizzy. Some of the men folk think Honey is no better than
she should be, but the married ladies love her. What is Joe
to make of this temptress?
I was laughing from early in the tale and it kept getting
better. When the Reverend's wife and the blacksmith's wife
get involved, telling Honey that they tell their men what
to do and she should stand up for herself, the medicine
woman unwittingly gets into some very compromising
positions.
Delilah Devlin writes erotica, and a lengthy part of the tale is used to detail adult
scenes. She treads the right side of fine lines like consent and
respect in the highly enjoyable SWEETER THAN HONEY. Her
series include Lone Star Lovers, Delta Heat and Triplehorn
Brand. Always something lively going on between the
covers.
Something’s on the rise in Two-Mule, Texas. And it ain’t just the temperature. 1880, West Texas Honey Cafferty lives a happy, if precarious, existence as a traveling saleswoman. She sells her elixirs and potions while searching for the one thing she hasn’t been able to brew from the back of her colorful wagon—a sense of belonging. She arrives in Two Mule, Texas, with her Elixir of Love, a potion that improves a man’s libido but might just get her run out of town. Sheriff Joe Tanner is protective of his little town. Downright hostile toward anyone who might take advantage of the fine folk under his protection. Any snake-oil salesman who rolls into town better just keep right on rolling. Honey isn’t what Joe expected, from her vibrant red hair and cat-green eyes to her curvy mouth and hips. And when the men of the town begin to plead exhaustion—and place the blame squarely on her sweet-smelling shoulders—Joe has no choice but to launch an investigation. A very, very deep investigation… This book has been previously published. Warning: Contains a sheriff who prides himself on keeping his town running as smooth as a well-greased wagon wheel, and a wandering saleswoman who’s more than a bump (and grind) in his road.
