"Fred", who chose that name from the Flintstones, is the Fourth Horseman -- Death. Though she rarely wears the grim reaper cloak or carries a scythe, she nonetheless clips the soul from the body and sends it on its way. A chance meeting on the beach in Australia leads them both to their DARK DESTINY.
Patrick Watkins is a lifeguard, just a human who loves sun and surfing. Well he does have a brother who is a vampire. Steven "Ven" Watkins actually died to save his brother, or did he?
Now Fred is very curious, Patrick and Ven can see her, no one sees death. Plus everyone born has the date of their birth and the date of their death written, but Patrick only has his birth. On top of those intriguing tidbits Ven shouldn't be a vamp he should be dead. She was the one who clipped his soul from his body. If Ven is more than a mere vampire, then could Patrick be more.
Searching the archives for anything she can Fred comes up with a line that says the Cure will meet the Disease. She knows the disease is the first horseman -- Pestilence. Is she supposed to help this human surfer use the powers she believes he has? Was she also supposed to fall in love with this human? Some things should really be written out more clearly.
DARK DESTINY is a very intriguing, very hot book. You have sexy Death who prefers you call her Fred, a normal Aussie surfer/lifeguard, vampires, a Principatus and a really gross first horseman, who could ask for more? Oh yes did I mention the burning sheets or walls or wherever they landed and the unexpected realization that Death can actually fall in love. Lexxie Couper has come up with a fantastic world and I hope to visit it many more times.
