Following the great depression and soldiers returning home to Arkansas in December of '45, Jimmy Reed's father is unfortunately not one of them. Leaving Jimmy a loner and secluding himself from others, he is heading for trouble. His father Robert gave to everyone around him throughout his life, including his own life in WW II and his family was given the Congressional Medal of Honor. That star was a constant reminder to Jimmy of all he had lost along with the pain and suffering he and his mother had endured.
Wanting to lighten the load on his hard working mother, he involves himself in a scheme with a band of unsavory confederates which could be the turning point for Jimmy to head his life in the wrong direction, so unlike his hero father. At a time when Jimmy needs to regain his lost faith, a letter is received from one of his father's friends which sheds a new perspective on everything the saddened boy is considering. The miracle of Christmas and the true meaning begin to become something different to him. Finally setting his priorities straight, he receives a final miracle that will change his holiday sadness to an unforgettable joy, filled with love.
