Craig masterfully draws us into the plight of this young
woman's search for who she really is. She shows us how
courageous it is to cast aside what you've believe was the
truth all your life. The rewards may be great but at what
price.
Tyler Lopez didn't have much faith in love. His ex-
girlfriend Lisa basically bailed on him and their
relationship when he was framed for a crime he didn't
commit. Now in business with the other two cops that were
also absolved of the crime their mission is to prevent the
same happening to another innocent person. Among the three
of them they boast a collection of impressive
investigative tools and compliment each other -- as well
as being close friends.
Zoe Adams has been raised by two loving attentive parents.
She hasn't any real angst about it but occasionally she
wonders why she doesn't resemble either parent. It has been
explained away by saying she looks just like one of her
great
aunts. These are really good people and her life has been
quite normal. Now a school teacher, like her mom, she has a
career she loves. So why is her interest sparked by a show
on the anniversary of the disappearance of a young girl
whose body has been found -- end of story. And yet it is
still newsworthy.
Looking at the pictures on the screen Zoe feels she is
looking in a mirror. Here is Caroline Bradford who has the
same complexion, hair and eye color as Zoe. Tragically the
mother and father died in an accident not long after their
daughter went missing. Zoe decides to find out who these
people were and get more information on the family. Her
curiosity just won't let it go. Her parents now deceased
she is basically alone and perhaps that's why she can't
help wonder if there is some family out there. Some stones
are better unturned -- as Zoe will discover.
She is on a fact finding mission but someone doesn't want
her snooping. Mysterious phone calls and other scare
tactics are being employed. And the mansion she is
checking out -- owned by the Bradford's -- is being well
guarded against crazies just like her.
Zoe stops in at the P.I. office of Only in Texas for help
with her quest. Not an auspicious beginning with Tyler
finding Zoe picking up papers from Bradford files that have
innocently fallen from his desk. Armed with two photos one
of Caroline Bradford age 4 on a swing and herself at 6 she
needs Tyler to believe that what they are looking at are
photos of her. If that is the case then the child buried
is not Caroline. But what tips the scales is that Zoe
has always been plagued with visions, the fact that as a
young child she called her mom -- Mother Two and last but
certainly not least her birth certificate is issued in
Texas not Alabama.
Tyler's interest is piquéd when his father remembers
having a picture of Nancy, Caroline's mother in his high
school year book. When they look up the photo Tyler
realizes he is looking at Zoe's face.
A really intriguing unsolved mystery lies at the center of
BLAME IT ON TEXAS by Craig which leaves no room for doubt
once the
case is solved. Mixed in with the myriad of discoveries is
the easy banter and camaraderie of great characters and
Craig's sense of humor. Little details mean so much and
this story is filled with interesting insights into not one
but actually three intertwining story lines.
Zoe Adams has always been content with her quiet nights at home, watching TV alone-until her life turns into a real-life episode of Unsolved Mystery Hunters. The story of a kidnapped girl triggers unexplained memories, and Zoe is dead-set on figuring out why. Her search leads her to one of the Lone Star State's richest families-and to sexy PI Tyler Lopez. Tyler has sworn off women, especially redheads with killer curves who poke their noses into his clients' private lives. Still, he can't deny the attraction any more than he can deny that some of Zoe's crazy story makes sense. But when she becomes a hit man's target, this cold case starts heating up. Suddenly, Tyler will do anything to protect Zoe-even risk his heart.
