Summer Wheeler was on a mission coming to Chance, Texas having spent her last dollar to track down and confront a man who had played a large role in shaping the woman she was -- a woman still recovering from the horror of being tied up while her husband and baby were murdered. Being the sole survivor of the fire that ultimately destroyed her family left Summer in a fragile mental state and even years of therapy didn't eradicate the nightmares that left her shaken to the core. She tracked through an investigator what she hoped was the current location of her captor but in order to continue her search she first needed to establish temporarily in Chance, get a job and hopefully get the answers she needed. First person she meets up with is Travis Chance who immediately caught her eye which surprised her since she had become basically a loner.
Somehow this take charge cowboy was willing to extend way more than just your average helping hand to a virtual stranger by offering her a meal, a place to stay and a temporary job. Travis liked to think of himself as a good judge of character and there was something about Summer that spoke volumes. Even when his brothers questioned his sanity in inviting this stranger to his home around his daughter, Travis was not to be budged. His curiosity was spiked and nothing was going to prevent him from discovering just what about Summer peaked his interest and if he was completely honest his attraction. Travis' life has revolved around his rather precocious daughter Jenna since his divorce and even though Summer's story didn't totally ring true he went with his gut. Of course Jenna was less than happy to meet this newcomer and was actually rude, but somehow Summer saw through that as a sign of an unhappy little girl who missed her mother.
Travis was immediately taken by this take charge dynamo that wasn't afraid of work and immersed her rather quickly in the household tasks. He did notice her reluctance to getting close to Jenna but had no idea why that might be.
The more time Summer spends with the Chances the more her curiosity is peaked over the sometimes awkward dynamics of the brothers and their history clearly intrigues her.
There's a bit of mystery at the Chance ranch and despite herself Summer is becoming attached to this hunky man and reluctantly to his little girl. Perhaps fate has brought her to a place where she can build a future -- does she dare hope?
TEXAS MAN HUNT is the second installment of the ongoing series involving the Chance brothers and it's a winner. There is still much to uncover in the lives of this family and lINDA Conrad has done an admirable job of reeling us in and keeping us on the hook for more. Be prepared to fall in love with these larger than life cowboys.
