Kelsey Chandler is a single mother, working to support her family as a TV News Anchor out of San Jose, California. What woman is immune to career mode influenza and once caught, just like the flu, it zings through her life, causing confusion, mishaps, and misunderstandings until she isn't sure what dreams she really wants. Is it love or a career? One of them won't fit.
Being nine years Kelsey's junior is the least of Finn Bishop's problems. As a police officer the chance at an undercover assignment is biting into his free time. He has a code of ethics beyond repute. So why does he want to be a lawyer? Bringing justice to right can be done on the streets just as well, but he wants the time with Kelsey, and Jason, her son.
Kelsey's big dream looks like it's finally about to come true. Dane Jansen is offering to steal her away to Seattle and promises her a promotion, perks, and a step to national broadcasting. Except, there's the other dream too -- the one with Finn, the one that ends with happily ever after. Where does that fit if there's over eight hundred miles separating them? She doesn't know who she is lying to more, Finn, or herself.
Finn is assigned to stakeout with Olivia, his undercover partner. It's bad enough that Kelsey feels threatened by Finn having a gorgeous female partner, but to make matters worse Olivia's recent behavior has him wondering at her emotional state of mind. He feels torn between his responsibility to his job and partner, and his dedication to Kelsey and Jason. Except even that's not working out. Kelsey's acting strange. What is she hiding? Maybe during the long weekend at Montana, they can talk it out. That is if he can get time off from work.
Thank you, Barbara Plum. You've shown us that people who seem to have everything can be just as screwed up as the rest of us. We were told women were strong and could have it all: the career, family, and personal life. QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE, is one woman's struggle at seeing that belief trashed and learning first hand that it's a myth. We have to choose between what we really want and what we can never have. Sometimes we just have to sit back and laugh or cry.
