Jillian Samuels had the right stuff to be an attorney--
intelligent, savvy, driven. Most importantly, she could
easily distance herself emotionally from her clients and
their cases. She was was very successful in keeping at a
distance anything or anyone who could possibly hurt her. But
everyone needs someone, and when her mentor, Blake, abruptly
dies, she is left more alone than ever.
As you know, though, when one door closes another opens. In
Jillian's case the opening came when she inherited Blake's
lake house and she was named the executor of his estate.
Partly intrigued, and partly desperate for a quick escape
from her job (and lecherous new boss), she makes her way to
Salvation, Colorado. But not before succumbing to the
temptation of trying on that darn magical wedding veil that
her friends had handed down to her. Not that she believed
in magic but, at a moment of real emotional pain, wrapping
herself in the wedding veil seemed right.
Tuck Manning was equally at odds with his life. Once a
hotshot architect whose buildings were held in great esteem,
now he's dealing with the aftermath of an expensive and
unsuccessful struggle to keep his his young wife alive. He
put his life on hold, and now he lived in the same lake
house he had shared with Aimee, fighting hard to keep her
memory alive. He could never have imagined someone was just
beyond the horizon on her way to claim her inheritance --
the same lake house that had been deeded to him and Aimee
from her estranged father, Blake.
The question is...Do you believe in coincidence or fate or
some cosmic force fashioning your future?
Well, Wilde wants her readers to believe in this story of
faith and love. Not the religious kind of faith necessarily,
but faith in people and relationships. One character had a
perfect relationship that ended sadly and abruptly. The
other seemed unable to have any real relationships at all.
One had love and the other distrusted the whole idea of
love. Each winds up hurt and distrustful. Surely the only
remedy must be magic. Wilde's characters are far from
magical -- they are fraught with human shortcomings. Which,
of course, makes them all the more lovable and memorable.
You'll enjoy meeting the wonderful people of Salvation.
They're magical.
