Just because Kate Salinger was a globe trotting risktaker
in search of hot new extreme sports, didn't mean she didn't
like coming home and finding everything as familiar as how
she left it. Unfortunately for Katie, things in real life
are not as glued down as how they were in her memory of
life in her hometown of Lone Oaks, Kansas. So when she
arrives to recuperated at home, all the talk of her newly
remarried father moving to a new house more in line with
her Dad's new wife and former housekeeper, Claudia's
taste, only left a sour taste in hers.
Despite the fact that she was supposed to be resting to
recover from her kayak injuries, Kate just had to get out
of the house and went rollerblading. Not the brightest
idea in the world, according to Dr. Fletcher, when Katie
went to see her old trusted family physician to get her
injury re-stitched. Only this wasn't the congenial old Dr.
Fletcher, but a cold and stuffy, although quite good
looking, new Dr. Fletcher who was disapprovingly reviewing
her lengthy medical file of old injuries.
Katie thought that there was no way she was going to be
bothering with Dr. Noah Fletcher, but when she got scant
information about his heroic lifesaving work in Africa, her
journalistic instincts burned to get the rest of the story.
Meanwhile, with the "For sale" sign on the front lawn
stabbing her in her heart and afraid to lose her memories
of her mother when the house would be sold, Katie when off
to stay with her sister who seemed a bit distracted with
problems of her own to be a help to Katie.
When none other than the risk adverse Noah Fletcher turns
out to be the potential buyer for Katie's family home, her
tactics to distract him from buying the house only piques
his interest not only in the house, but with her.
But how far out on the limb can Noah go to reach the
heights that the adrenaline addicted Katie aspires to go?
Despite enjoying the hot melting kisses Katie uses to find
out more Noah's secret past, will physical attraction alone
be enough to keep her grounded?
Amy Knupp will amaze you with this intriguing tale of two
unlikely lovers who have to find their own way past the
fears that drive them to their destiny. Their journey is
also superbly set within the context of how one deals with
loss, especially the love of a loss of a family home and
how to retain the memories when the physical reminders are
gone. Any packrat will be instantly empathic with the
emotional toil involved!
This is a captivating read with lots of life's
complexities involved, which I just love. The only wee
disappointment I had with the storyline was when Noah
continuing to provide medical care for Katie he started to
fall for her, as it seemed unethical. Given that, as
indicated by the title the fact that Noah is a doctor is
very central to the complexities of emotions in the
story. I am sure you will enjoy!
