The Black Knights might make some of the most sought-after and expensive motorcycles known to man, but they are also very good at black ops. For the most part, these men and women lead normal lives, but Fisher Wakefield makes the MAN IN BLACK very real.
Fisher has loved Eliza Meadows from the moment he set eyes on her. Well, lusted after the beauty as he does not believe he is capable of the love she deserves. She comes from money, he doesn’t – her daddy is chief of staff to the president and he is the son of a murderer. Nope, not to be, but as she is the “Girl Friday” for BKI he tries to be a friend. Okay so they bicker back and forth and he hates the guy she is dating. But nothing will stop him from being there when she lands in the hospital after a gunman blows away everyone at the party, she was attending … including the man who had just put a ring on her finger.
MAN IN BLACK is an intriguing look at what the past can do to a person’s future if someone doesn’t help straighten them out. The BKI people are family and one of the outstanding parts of this book and the whole series (including the original Black Knight Inc. series). Watching as they all have each other’s backs is part of the fun and some of the interactions with one another add warmth to this book.
MAN IN BLACK is the story of Fisher and Eliza. The star-crossed – sort of – lovers but it is only after Eliza manages to get to the bottom of Fisher’s reluctance do they become lovers. There is quite a lot of wishy-washy between these two. They go from bickering friends to friends with benefits, back to bickering friends until finally, an intervention straightens them out. Well, mostly Fisher – though his fears are understandable considering his father.
Added into the mix of someone killing off anyone who survived the original shooting and going after Eliza – one of the other members, Britt Rollins, sort of has a few moments with F.B.I. Agent Julia O’Toole as she investigated the shooting. (Can’t say I found her partner much of a delight though he was a bit of a chauvinist as some of his questions and comments made that obvious.) I did enjoy Julia’s Star Wars comments which had Britt streaming all the movies so he could come up with a couple of good comments to her. This helped lighten the mood quite a bit.
If you are a fan of author Julie Ann Walker’s Black Knight series you are going to love the danger, intrigue, romance and family life that is offered in MAN IN BLACK. I recommend this book and for readers to grab it, sit back and enjoy an amazing read.
SUMMARY
A story as old as time… He comes from nothing, and she was born with a silver spoon. Do opposites really attract?
The Black Knights are back and better than ever!
As the son of a felon, Fisher Wakefield is no stranger to the seedier side of life. So when Eliza Meadows, BKI’s elegant and efficient Girl Friday, finds herself the target of group of low-down, murderous thugs, he doesn’t hesitate to jump into the fray despite Eliza insisting she doesn’t need his help.
The lone survivor and only witness to the killing of U.S. senator and his family, Eliza is forced to rely on the covert operators at Black Knights Inc. to keep her safe. But she’s never been very good at letting other people solve her problems. And to make matters worse, Fisher, the bad boy from the bayou, refuses to leave her side.
As the Black Knights race to uncover who is behind the senator’s murder, they soon find out all is not as it seems. There are mysterious powers at play. And if Fisher and Eliza can’t learn to work together, they might lose everything.
