Don't Open the Door

Romance Suspense | Thriller Domestic

Regan Merritt, a former US Marshall, has already lost so much.  After the murder of her ten-year-old son, her marriage crumbled.  She left her job and moved to Arizona to be with family, but it was the murder of her former boss, Tommy, after he left her a message that he was investigating her son's death that brings her back to her former home. She is determined to uncover what new evidence Tommy had uncovered, no matter the cost.  The more she digs for answers the more dangerous her mission becomes.

Allison Brennan skillfully brings Regan to life in DON'T OPEN THE DOOR, the second book in the Regan Merrit series.  She is methodical, clear thinking, organized, and highly skilled.  Rarely wearing her emotions on her sleeve, Regan is very good at what she does. The narrative is so well written, readers can connect with the protagonist as she tries to reconstruct this baffling case. What is the real reason her son was killed?  Well-plotted and filled with several twists, this story is immersive.

Allison Brennan brings to readers a multi-layered murder mystery.  As the story races to its conclusion, once seemingly non-connected pieces and secrets come together to reveal the painful truth. I found DON'T OPEN THE DOOR to be a well-written and engrossing story.  Highly recommended.

SUMMARY

A family torn apart. A botched investigation. She’ll stop at nothing to get answers.

US Marshal Regan Merritt never bought the FBI’s theory that her ten-year-old son’s murder was tied to her job. Yet as leads went cold, she’d had to walk away from the marshals, the case and her now ex-husband, Grant, who blamed her for Chase’s death.

After Regan receives a chilling voice mail from her former boss, Tommy, claiming new information about Chase’s murder, she can no longer stay away from her pain-filled past. Especially when Tommy’s murdered before she can return his call.

Now more than ever, Regan’s determined to find the truth, but the more she digs, the more evidence points to Grant as the killer’s true target. But Grant isn’t talking. As she tries to pin down her ex, Regan discovers something much bigger and far more sinister is at play—and she’s running out of people she can trust.
