Romance Paranormal | Fantasy Urban

Raven Crawford is a half-fae shifter, part-time waitress, and part-time P.I. with her stepfather's company. Still, she is just this side of being able to keep up with her bills (thanks to her idiot ex and her pride). On top of that, she had a confrontation with a whacked-out Queen Lloth and now finds there are consequences she didn't know about. There are just some times when a girl wants to throw her hands up and say NEVERMORE!

If anything in life has taught Raven true lessons, it is that you can expect more to go wrong than what will go right when it comes to love. Her attraction to the mysterious Lord of Shadows and being pestered by another dark Lord, Bane, only complicates her life even more. But, when your ex's current girlfriend wants to hire you to follow him, then you know things just got even stranger!

NEVERMORE is a fascinating revisit to author J.C. McKenzies' Raven Crawford world. Raven is only trying to get her life back on an even kilter. She is a feisty, hard working, kick butt woman, and just when she thinks things are going to smooth out - wham - something else comes along and threatens her peace of mind, and her very life. To add to her usual woes, besides the investigation on the ex, and her unwise attraction to Cole, is that according to Bane, she is now the Corvid Queen and needs to learn quickly before others take advantage of her. With an attempted kidnapping, Raven is forced to learn more about the underworld than she wants to know. So in between the diner, two investigations (the second is a teacher who is claiming workers comp and this one has an interesting twist) she is learning to protect herself from anyone who would claim her. She also inherited a bodyguard, Rourke, who is really scary but has taken a liking to her and is working for Cole.

I am not sure about Cole, her Lord of Shadows, still haven't decided if he is a good guy or just out for himself which is how he came off in the first book (Conspiracy of Ravens) but seeing him try to fit into her world does soften the edges a bit. Though he continues with his secretiveness, there are moments when he lets Raven know his feelings. There is also a moment that turned out to be a bit romantic, and it deals with a special stone that is left as a tip for her by a strange old man ... turns out to be something much more. Sorry, you have to read NEVERMORE to find out what it is.

The dramas, dangers, intrigue, and tension of NEVERMORE will have you glued to the pages, and when it is finished, Ms. McKenzie will have left you satisfied yet wanting more.

With failure and disappointment honed to painful perfection, Raven’s life is riddled with complications, including her troublesome attraction to the lethal Lord of Shadows.
