When she was 14 years old, Alice Hill was stabbed by two of
her friends and left to die. They claimed that a man named
Mister Tender told them to do it. That cannot be true,
though, because Mister Tender is a fictional character. He
was created by Alice's father, who turned this
character into very successful graphic novels.
Alice survived the attack physically but plagued with
severe panic attacks and other PTSD symptoms. Her mother
divorces her father and brings Alice along with her brother
Thomas, across the ocean to the United States.
Alice manages to thrive in the U.S. and even buys a
coffee shop. She vows never to become a victim again
and, to this end, she visits a gym frequently where she puts
herself through strenuous workouts.
Alice's mother is a total control freak, and Alice does not
enjoy seeing her any more than she absolutely must. On the
other hand, she feels bound to check in on Thomas often
because she believes their mother is controlling him
through various medications. Each visit with her mother
leaves her on the verge of a panic attack.
Alice is getting better, though. That is until she starts
receiving cryptic texts from someone calling themselves Mr.
Interested. This stranger seems to know everything about
Alice; her new last name, her address, her coffee shop
address, where she
works out and everything else. She also finds that there is
a complete website online about her. She feels that she is,
once again, a target but she is determined to beat her
nemesis once and for all.
If you are into books that will keep you guessing while also
looking over your shoulder, MISTER TENDER'S GIRL is the
novel for you. Alice is a damaged character, and I felt her
pain and terror each step of the way. The characters are
complex and three dimensional on the page. I hated Alice and
Thomas's mother and wanted to see something horrible happen
to her. She is seriously that awful of a person!
The creep factor in MISTER TENDER'S GIRL is quite high as
Alice tries to identify the person sending her the strange
texts. He seems to be closer to her than she thinks, and she
has got to fight off those panic attacks so that she can
confront him. Things are going from bad to worse in Alice's
life as she is forced to do many things that she does not
want to do in order to find Mr. Interested. It almost seems
that he wants her to find him, but for what purpose?
MISTER TENDER'S GIRL is a seriously creepy book and is one
that will keep you up at night. It will make you question
things about your own beliefs regarding just how far you
might go to save your life. Don't miss this one!
At fourteen, Alice Hill was viciously attacked by two of
her classmates and left to die. The teens claim she was a
sacrifice for a man called Mister Tender, but that could
never be true: Mister Tender doesn't exist. His sinister
character is pop-culture fiction, nothing more.
Over a decade later, Alice has changed her name and is
trying to heal. But someone is watching her. They know
more about Alice than any stranger: her scars, her fears,
and the secrets she keeps locked away. She can try to
escape her past, but he is never far behind.
Addictive and chillingly surprising, this ripped-from-
the-headlines thriller will have you transfixed until the
very last page.
