Mystery Cozy

Have you ever needed a Hot Flash Fudge Sundae or a Down in the Dumps Apple Cake? If so, Winnie Johnson has just the recipe for you! Winnie is closing her bakery downtown in Silver Lake because the rent is getting too high. She recently inherited a 1960 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance and a cat named Lovey from a deceased friend. With nowhere to use her culinary skills, Winnie uses her creative side, and The Emergency Dessert Squad comes to life. She and her only employee, Renee, develop a business plan and come up with some very creative names for her desserts.

Winnie lives on Serenity Lane, where many older people have also made their home. She likes old people and looks after her neighbors, who are also her best friends. When she takes a peach pie across the street to Brad, she finds him dead in his kitchen, smothered with a pillow over his face. The police have no leads, so Winnie takes it upon herself to find Brad's killer. With a new business to get off the ground and a murder investigation to explore, Winnie has little time for romance, but romance finds its way to her in a most unexpected twist.

ÉCLAIR AND PRESENT DANGER is a charming cozy mystery that will have you laughing (and marveling) at the dessert names Winnie comes up with. There's a dessert for every emotional emergency or celebration in your life. And if she doesn't already have a dessert to fit, Winnie will create one. Laura Bradford's characters are a quirky, eccentric lot, but fit together to make this a delightful story that will keep you turning pages to see what happens next. Several unusual turns and twists in the plot make an exciting storyline to follow. ÉCLAIR AND PRESENT DANGER is the first book in a new series by Ms. Bradford's An Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery. Some of Winnie's recipes are included at the end for an extra bonus. If this is your genre, do not miss this very entertaining story.

SUMMARY

The first book in the delicious new Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery series from national bestselling author Laura Bradford.

With her rent rising faster than her pie crust, bakery owner Winnie Johnson had hoped to be rescued by an inheritance from her wealthy friend and neighbor Gertrude Redenbacher. Instead all she inherits is the widow’s hostile hissing tabby, Lovey, and a vintage ambulance, restored by Gertrude’s late husband. As her dream crumbles, Winnie makes her final delivery—a peach pie to an elderly widower. But she finds Bart Wagner lying on his kitchen floor, smothered by a pillow.

To comfort her frightened and grieving neighbors, Winnie comes to the rescue with her baked goods—and an idea is born: dessert delivery via her ambulance and a new business called the Emergency Dessert Squad. When she’s not speeding to the scenes of dessert emergencies, Winnie is also racing to track down Bart’s killer—before she needs to call a real ambulance for the next victim...
