You have to read the previous book, ME BEFORE YOU before you read
AFTER YOU. You will miss out on too much if you don't. Louisa had been
Will's caregiver. Will was a quadriplegic and had decided to end his life.
Louisa fell in love with Will while caring for him. Fast forward eighteen
months and Louisa is a hot mess. She is struggling and just can't seem to
move on. One night she decides to go up on her rooftop and somehow,
falls off. Everyone close to her is sure she did it on purpose but she tries,
unconvincingly, to tell them it was an accident.
She returns to her parents home to recover. Louisa is a
physical and emotional wreck. She starts going to a group called The
Moving On Circle where she meets quite the cast of characters. They are
all trying to move on, and in the therapy sessions we learn quite a bit about
them. They all have fears, insecurities, hope, as well as survivors guilt.
AFTER YOU shows how moving on and living again is different for
everyone. You can't help but feel the emotional turmoil Louisa is in and it
breaks your heart. When a stranger from Will's past shows up on Louisa's
doorstep, her life will change like she never expected.
When I first heard that AFTER YOU was being published I was excited and
scared. I truly wanted to catch up with Louisa and see how her life was
going. What if I didn't love it as much as ME BEFORE YOU? Well, I was not
disappointed at all, but really felt like the sequel wasn't necessary to the
original story. The characters are well written and I didn't find fault in any
part of the story. It didn't blow me away and I didn't feel the
emotional impact like I did with the first book. That being said, I'm sure
some readers will love it and others won't. But that is the beauty of reading.
We all have different likes and dislikes right? I've always loved Ms. Moyes
books and I still do. She always writes well-written stories from the heart
and I'm sure she will continue to do so.
When one story ends, another begins. The sequel to the
beloved New York Times million-copy bestseller, Me
Before You.
How do you move on after losing the person you loved? How do
you build a life worth living?
Louisa Clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an
ordinary life. After the transformative six months spent
with Will Traynor, she is struggling without him. When an
extraordinary accident forces Lou to return home to her
family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she
started.
Her body heals, but Lou herself knows that she needs to be
kick-started back to life. Which is how she ends up in a
church basement with the members of the Moving On support
group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and
terrible cookies. They will also lead her to the strong,
capable Sam Fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life
and death, and the one man who might be able to understand
her. Then a figure from Will’s past appears and hijacks all
her plans, propelling her into a very different future. . . .
For Lou Clark, life after Will Traynor means learning to
fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. But here
Jojo Moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose
joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both
changes and surprises await.
After You is quintessential Jojo Moyes—a novel that
will make you laugh, cry, and rejoice at being back in the
world she creates. Here she does what few novelists can
do—revisits beloved characters and takes them to places
neither they nor we ever expected.
