Nola Mae Harper has traveled the world with her job, but now returns home to her family's peach farm for her parents' anniversary. Unfortunately, a murder on the farm now lands Nola smack in the middle of the investigation, particularly when her brother-in-law is the prime suspect. Can Nola uncover the identity of the murderer while keeping the family's peach farm afloat?
PEACHES AND SCREAM is the first book in the Georgia Peach Mystery series and oh, what a great start it is! Susan Furlong introduces readers to the sleepy town of Cays Mill, Georgia, where gossip is practically a way of life. Meeting the residents and visiting their businesses is half the fun as Susan Furlong does a marvelous job at bringing Cays Mill to life.
The characters in PEACHES AND SCREAM are both delightful and have a surprising amount of complexity for the first book in a series. I love the way Nola and her family stick together, even when Hollis is doing nothing to earn their loyalty. Susan Furlong really captures the heart of Southern traditions in her characters, including the small touches such as the food deliveries. However, it is the Georgia Belle facts that made me smile the most as they are both humorous and quite accurate.
PEACHES AND SCREAM is a fantastic start to a new cozy mystery series and I look forward to revisiting Cays Mill in future books. From the yummy sounding recipes to the wonderful ambiance of Cays Mill, PEACHES AND SCREAM has it all!
