THE AMISH CLOCKMAKER is book three in the Men Of Lancaster
County series.
THE AMISH CLOCKMAKER is the story of two different Amish men.
The
first story is told during the present time and is the story
of Matthew Zook.
He wants to expand the business that his grandfather started
about 60
years ago. Even though his grandfather approved of his plans,
his father
does not! His grandfather had purchased the land that was
formerly owned
by Clayton Raber, an Amish clockmaker who was accused of
murdering his
wife.
Clayton was innocent, but his family and the community never
believed his
story that his wife was mentally ill. He was excommunicated and
left town
never returning to Lancaster. It is important that Matthew
locate Clayton
Raber since there is a problem with the deed of one acre. A
resort wants to
acquire that one acre. Matthew needs to find Clayton but he
isn't even sure
if he is still alive. All work has now stopped on Matthew's
expansion until ownership
of the land can be proven. With few leads to follow and
Clayton's
family refusing to help, will Matthew locate Clayton before the
resort does?
The second part of THE AMISH CLOCKMAKER deals with Clayton
Raber.
Clayton Raber is a man who seemed to have been dealt the wrong
hand in the game of life. Left lame from a childhood buggy
accident, he also
has a nasty scare on his face. He is gifted in his craft, and
his work was
known for its beauty as well as craftsmanship. He was a
wonderful man
who loved deeply with a genuine heart. He never dreamed of
marrying and
when he did, it was to his next door neighbor. He marries the
troubled
Marian Beiler. He loves her even though she does not return his
love. Of
course we learn in the first part that Marian dies and Clayton
leaves town.
His story left me feeling bad that most of his family dies
believing that he is
a murderer. I love Clayton's portion of the story. It is a
great and unusual
Amish love story.
I devoured THE AMISH CLOCKMAKER. I was on the edge of my seat
the
whole time and it had just the right amount of mystery. I
felt like I was part of the story. Mindy Starns Clark and Susan
Meissner's
writing made me feel what the characters were feeling and
experiencing
during the entire story. I have enjoyed both Mindy Starns
Clark and Susan
Meissner's books so when they teamed up for the Men of
Lancaster
County series I was so excited. The two women have joined
voices to
make the Men of Lancaster County an intriguing set of
stories that play to each
of their strengths.
Once I started reading THE AMISH CLOCKMAKER, I was totally
invested in all the
characters and felt
like I was right there going through life's struggles with them
all.
From bestselling authors Mindy Starns Clark and Susan
Meissner,
The
Amish Clockmaker (Book 3 in the Men of Lancaster County series)
explores the men of an Amish community in Lancaster County, how
their
Amish beliefs play out in their unique roles, and the women who
change
their lives.
Newlywed Matthew Zook is expanding his family’s tack and feed
store
when a surprising property dispute puts the remodel on hold—and
raises
new questions about the location’s mysterious past.
Decades earlier, the same building housed a clock shop run by a
young
Amish clockmaker named Clayton Raber. Known for his hot temper,
Clayton was arrested for the murder of his beloved wife, a
crime almost
everyone—including his own family members—believed he’d
committed,
even after charges were dropped. Isolated and feeling condemned
by all,
Clayton eventually broke from the church, left Lancaster
County, and was
never heard from again.
Now the only way Matthew can solve the boundary issue and save
his
family’s business is to track down the clockmaker. But does
this put
Matthew on the trail of a murderer?
A timeless novel of truth, commitment, and the power of
enduring love,
where secrets of the past give way to hope for the future.
